I built this one a couple weeks ago, quite literally in one night, it just had little parts and went together really fast. I bought it @ HL, but there’s one BIG problem…it has a huge gap along the sides !!! Is it supposed to be like that, or is this something I can rectify with some spare plastic ??? This does not look right at all…
That kit was made in a motorized variant as well as a static display model. That is the reason for the slots. Fill them in using your preferred method. You may also want to blank off the bottom of the sponsons (area over the tracks) and the inner areas of the engine deck beneath the grills. This is a nice simple kit that you can go to town on experimenting on different ways to improve it.
Brutus: I believe that the Tamiya Panther A was first made in 1972 – making this a nearly forty year old kit. As others have said, use it as a vehicle for your building skills. But to say it’s been surpassed is akin to rolling out an AMC Pacer these days.
Coming along well! You will want to match the contours of the rear hull over the tracks to match the edges of the outer hull plates. The angle and then the run to the rear -_ so to speak. Sorry I cant describe it better. On the A and D Panthers there was not a single flat piece of armor over the tracks but instead a stepped set.
I’m no expert on German armour but it looks good to me. That same kit was the second or third 1/35 scale model I build in high school back in the '80s. Brings back lots of memories - good luck with her.
So, I couldnt get the link, but I did clean up the joints. Here’s where she stands now, it’ll be stalled for a cpl days until I can get some more colors @ the lhs
After all the bad mouthing one hears about older kits like this, I just love to see what can be done with one! And to do such a good job on your first attempt at Zimm! Keep it up![t$t]
So after a coat of Primer red, it got salt, and then a coat of Tamiya Dark Yellow with a little Khaki mixed in. Built the wheels, painted the vinyl tracks, and now to start the washes. After another forum discussion on here, I think I might destroy the barrel, and show it after ordinance had either misfired, or been sabotaged…have’nt made up my mind.
