I was chatting on MSN with Keyworth and others and asked about where to find 1200 grit sandpaper. They suggested Home Depot or Lowes. I went yesterday and the best I could find was 600…which by the way hardly feels like sandpaper at all…so what’s 1200 like?? A sheet of paper?? [;)]
Anyways…where can I find the sanding pads like are close to this grit?? I used the 600 grit yesterday to try and fix some orange peel on my Mustang and it barely seemed to do anything…I didn’t notice any scratches-- does 600 really do damage to the plastic??
I’ll be trying to add the Alclad II to the model soon…after I figure out how to mask the wheel wells and completed cockpit interior.
One last thing-- I remember somewhere recently in FSM an article on painting stands to hold the plane while airbrushing…can someone point me to what issue it was?? Or even better-- give tips as to what I can use to prevent the plane from moving about when I am airbrushing (for the first time…wish me luck!).

Try www.micromark.com. They have a complete polishing kit with the fine grades of sandpaper you are looking for.
If that doesn’t fit your requirements, go to a local paint store that sells auto body paints and supplies. They should have the sandpaper and other materials you’re looking for.

To find sandpaper like 1200 grit, you’d be better served to check out a store that handles autobody supplies instead of home building supplies. I have found 1200 grit sheets and even 1500 grit at these places.
If you have any check Autozone Pepboys…any suppliers that might sell direct to body shops(good luck with them though they generally dont sell retail)…I cant believe ya didnt find anything higher than 600…I buy 1200 regularly from Lowes down here…Oh well I guess not every store carries the same things
Tamiya carries a line of sand paper too, I think they range from 500-2500 grit, or something like like that. Any hobby shop carrying Tamiya products should be able to order it for you. It is very nice stuff, buy as with all Tamiya stuff you pay the price.
I get most of my sandpaper from the local NAPA store - they stock 220, 320, 360, 400, 600, 800, 1200, 1600 and 1800 - the owner has told me that if I want any other grade, he can probably get it for me.
