Question on Paint Colors

I’m building the 1941 1/200 USS Arizona and would like to know if the below paints should be correct before I purchase the paints. 1. Tamiya Surface Primer L Light Gray 180ml Spray Can # 87064 2. Tamiya TS-67 UN Gray (Sasebo Arsenal) Acrylic Spray Can 3oz # 85067 3. Tamiya Acrylic XF-7 Flat Red 23ml Bottle of Paint # 81307 4. Tamiya Surface Primer L White 180ml Spray Can # 87044 5. Tamiya TS-68 Wooden Deck Tan Acrylic Spray Can 3oz 100ml Paint #85068 6. Tamiya TS-33 Dull Red Acrylic Spray Can 3oz 100ml Paint # 85033 Thanks for your feedback and help Bobbart

IIRC, these are the options you received from your post on SteelNavy

Your own personal definition of “correct” is entirely up to you. Are the colors you cited correct? They are if you say they are.

The better question may be are these cited colors acceptable as being representative of the colors used on the Arizona on some given date in her career?

December 7, 1941 – no they are not.

I’ve been told that there was a small range of acceptable variation from the standard colors and there was a slight difference from manufacturers and if there was paint from two different suppliers the paints were mixed together to get a single color. Can you get the exact color she was that day: no. You would need to ask someone who was there that day.

Asking someone who was there that day doesn’t even work, because the answers conflict.

Ed nailed it. If they make you happy, use them. If you want historically accurate colors, you’ll need to step out of rattle cans.
