I am primarily a figure modeler (but have a few aircraft under my belt) and am currently doing the Jaguar 1/16 scale “over the top” figure. It is a nice kit that depicts a British Officer looking at his watch waiting for the time to commence with a trench raid. My question for you all is who has a good set of aftermarket dials or aircraft instruments? I want to put a nice watch dial on the figure, and I estimated a 1/32 or so aircraft dial with the right detail would be just right. Hope someone knows of a good one (if it is an actual clock for the instrument panel, even better!) Thanks all for the help
Archer makes some pretty nice dry-transfer gauges… They’re 1/35th panel vehicle gauges, but they would likely have a a few that’d look and scale out nicely into a 1/16th watch-face…
If you have an ink-jet printer, you could make your own quite easily using white decal paper (and a shot of Testor’s Decal Bonder) too… Just pick the watch-face you want to use from one on the 'net (Should be able the exact Brit-military type too) and print it out on the paper… Then a shot of the decal bonder, let dry, and you’re set… A WW1 watch-face decal…
thanks for the advice, I like the dry transfer idea…I thought about doing your second idea, but shrinking down an image and then getting it to print, I dont think Im savvy enough to do it, and I was afraid the detail would be erased. Ill try your dry transfers, then possibly last case scenario the scan/decal…many thanks
Have a look on ebay for some of the Promodeler instrument sheet decals as well. The have individual instrument decals of varying sizes on the sheets. The decals are 1/48 scale. But due to the various sizes of instruments some might do very well for you.
Mike Grant Decals sells sheets of instrument panel decals in 72, 48 and 32 sizes. Buy one of those in 1/32 and you’ll have enough to do watches for half the British army![:D]
thanks for the advise all, I went looking for the Mike Grant Decals and ended up at Airscale decals out of England - really nice scale guages and dials (1/32 and 1/24 stuff). Found a nice set of 1/32 Stuka instruments that had some nice clock faces - so for a British Soldier it was only fair to use a British company (even though it is for a German Aircraft). Much appreciated
Ok, the decals came all the way from merry England, and there were several dials that looked just like a watch dial - after slecting a size, it fit like a glove and really made the model - thanks for the help!
