Just a quick question I think I know the answer to already. Have any of you sprayed Vallejo over future? If so how did it do? Did it stick?
I am ready to mask my Martlet and just wanted to make sure of how it holds up to tape as usually I do WWII USN aircraft with freehand airbrushing… anyone mask over Vallejo? I was thinking of futuring over this coat then masking so as not to attack the paint but not sure how the paint will stick to it. I primered before I sprayed the Vallejo so I think it will be fine but just wanted some reassurance before I put tape on the bare paint!
Tom, I’ve never applied Vallejo over future but as for masking I think I can give you a few hints.
I mainly use Tamiya yellow tape and have never had a problem with lifting of the paint underneath. I also use post-it notes and again, no problem.
The one thing I can count on lifting paint however is frisket paper. It’s way too agressive and the only thing I would again put it over is enamel.
As far as other tapes, 3M Blue is also way too aggresive IMHO. Someone else here in the Forum (Pix?) uses drafting tape, but I have no experience with that.
great, thanks Stinger! Just a little nervous because this model is coming along real good and I dont wanna screw it up when I am almost to the end…
I saw someone else’s technique using blue tak to mask for a RAF WWII scheme, I might try that or the Tamiya tape which I have several rolls of. I do know the 3M purple painters tape doesn’t pull it up I could always use that (it’s what I used to mask off the bottom fuselage color when painting the top color)
I forgot to mention the purple tape, so I’m glad you are aware of it. It is rather hard to find, but I know that Lowes’s carries it, and as you said, it works great.
