Question for Treadwell

I really enjoyed your posts on the 1/16 T34. I was wondering how you cut the tank panels to expose the top of the engine. The small hinged hatch really doesn’t expose much of the engine. What cutting tool did you use and do you have any pics of the panel removed? I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Don

the upper hull engine panels were cut out from the inside using a #11 exacto blade to preserve a tight fit and do as little damage as possible. you must go slowly and change the blade often. If I were to to it over again I might try a VERY sharp panel scriber. Hold the hull up to a bright light. When you can see you have cut nearly all the way through, make a few light cuts with the tip of the # 11 from the topside to finish the job–watch the corners, keep 'em clean!!-- just take your time!–you will have to alter many interior pieces for the correct look and build an inner substructure for the newly removed panel—best of luck to you ----here are some pics with the panel off-- you probably have already seen them—tread[8D]

Aircraft guys use dental floss to separate panels w/ a minimum of damage to the parts. Maybe give this a try?

Thank you! That is just what I needed.

Get yourself a JLC saw. The blade is razor is thin leaving an extremely thin kerf. The Flexifile sanding band is tight enough to hold the part in this example. 2 sheets of paper barely fit.

thats about the nicest compliment I’ve ever had[:D]-----thanks so much Steve-- really means alot to me[:I]-----yer pal, tread[8D]

Treadwell it was you…I was trying to remember who it was building the large scale T-34. I guess I mssed some of your posts. Please accept my apologies for not rememebering that it was you. That is one model that I would really like to be able to see first hand, not only thru pictures. Beautiful job!
