Question for the jet jockies

I just picked up these two kits i picked up the F16 and the exgirlfriend picked up the F-15 for me to build for her every modelers dream so if you have built or know anyone that has built either one of these kits let me know and yes i have the FSM with the review but want some more input.

You said your EX got you the kit?! You oughta get back with her! hehe

Great score! You better get building, lucky dog.

I haven’t built either kit, but that Boeing F-15 just doesn’t sound right! It will still be a McDonnel Douglas F-15 to me. Sort of like Revell putting there name on Monogram “re-released” kits! We may be buying Toyota Fords before long! Ha, ha! Probably souldn’t be laughing!

Well she works for boeing so go figure.

I have the F-15E downstairs that is next to be built when I finish the F-105D I’m working on now, and have the Tamiya F-15C about 1/4 finished. The “E” will be built as an Israeli F-15I Ra’am though. Just from looking at it in the box it appears to be very similar to the F-15C kit and that one is a very good kit. I’m only about 1/4 through it but everything I’ve done on it so far has come together quite well.

I built the original release of the F-15E. The only problems was the intakes gave me some trouble as they didn’t want to fit right. The seam inside the intakes were also hard to fill and clean up. The cockpit tub had to be sanded down to fit inside the fuselage halves. Everything else went together pretty easy.

The latest release is the same kit with new bombs. It doesn’t have the modifications or up dates to model the current F-15E. Do some research prior to building it so you can add the latest modifications.

Don’t forget that Boeing merged with McDonnel Douglas (back in 1997 if I remember correctly). I want to say I’ve seen Boeing take the credit for a lot of a/c that were produced by other companies (which were competitors early on) that Boeing bought, but I can’t find an example at the moment.

Yes they did merge at that year i only live about 15 miles away from boeing and its kinda neat with all the apaches flying around. Thanks Bill for your input she just wants it straight out of the box.

Hey MusicCity do you know if the F-15I is used as a fighter-bomber or just as an updated F-15C by the Israelis? I don’t think they need a big time mud mover like that do they?

According to This Page on Israeli-Weapons.Com it is being used as “**A dual-role long range fighter for attack and interception”. From that statement it doesn’t sound like they plan to use it as a bomber, however the Israelis are famous for using whatever is available to them to do whatever needs to be done so it would not surprise me at all to find out they are being used as mud movers. The F-15I is based on the two-seat F-15E though, not the single seat F-15C.

When I heard that they had bought the strike eagle I was partly surprised. The F-15C is a decent bomber in its own right even without the fancy attack equipment of the “E”.

Check out this site for several builds of the F-15E:
