You probably know already about how I’d like to copy your idea of motorizing a Ju 290 (among other things…), and I just need a quick answer for a question that concerns me. As I don’t have the kits yet (waiting on Squadron…), I was looking at the parts diagrams on the internet, most importantly the engine breakdown. From what I see, the propeller is able to spin because a plastic shaft passes through the engine parts with a “washer” (I guess) to keep it on in the back. (It’s connected to the prop on the other.) That’s what bothers me.
My worry is that the speed of the spinning prop (hooked to the motor) might heat the plastic parts of the shaft, and possibly the engines, causing them to distort. I was wondering what you were planning to do on your project (whenever you make yours), weither you were planning to make a metal shaft and hook the prop parts on that, or just hook the motor right to the plastic shaft and not run it for very long. This is my biggest concern for my project (below), and any help would be greatly appreciated. Besides, when in doubt, ask the master! [:D]
