Question for Jeff Herne

Jeff,

Since you always appear to be “in the know”, when can all of us ship builders expect to see a Nimitz class carrier in 1/350 scale in our favorite hobby shops?

I recently picked up a 1/500 scale of the Stennis. Expecting to see something decent when I opened the box, well to say the least, I was extremely disappointed. This Stennis is also a Trumpter kit. The detailing is the pits and I was expecting to see a split hull, but it is all one peice and really does not look proportionally correct.

The Air wing on this carrier is “Vietnam era” which is kind of surprising!!
F-4s and RF-5 Vigilantes didn’t fly off the Stennis, did they???

Anyway to get to the point, will the 1/350 scale carriers be worth the wait. Will they be somewhere along the lines of Tamiya’s Enterprise??

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I am still deciding whether to keep the 500 scale Stennis, or just slap it together and give it to my “little terminator”.

The Stennis didn’t even exist in the Vietnam era. As a matter of fact it didn’t even exist in the Cold War. I think it’s only around ten years old. My suggestion would be to do like you proposed and give it to your “little terminator”.

I would like to say VERY SOON, but things have gotten real quiet over there…and I don’t know why. It’s not just on my side of things either, because several others that I’m in contact with are also not getting much intel the way we used to.

However, I received a set of plans about 8 months ago of the Nimitz, and was asked to mark them up and try to locate any errors, which I did, and passed it on through channels, so I know they’re not puffing smoke. I still have the drawings, btw, and I’d be willing to send you a pic of them once I find them (this shop is a terrible mess right now).

I’d say (and I’m speculating) you’ll see something by early/mid summer…I’ve also heard that the LIberty ship is very close…
