I’m new to model building. Just got the b-17g in 1/48 scale by revell monogram. I am wondering if it’s best to use primer in the cockpit before painting.

I don’t use primer most of the time. Ok fine. I never use primer except for natural metal finishes.
Sometimes I do sometimes I dont… if you are using acrylics you might… not 100% necessary though… enamels should be fine… thing is the parts will be sealed in so not subject to scrapes or handling so less likely to scratch or chip… an open cockpit fighter would be more needing to be primered than that B-17 though… just do it how you feel and you should be fine…
For the cockpit, I agree, don’t think you need primer on that as your won’t be doing much masking there.
just a little note, if you prime you probably will get slightly better coverage. this is important if the paint you are using doesnt cover well but i think interior green shouldent have any coverage problems.
I always do a thin coat of primer. Reason being is I don’t usually wash the entire model. Mainly just the bigger areas. This way if there is any molding release agent on the part I find out when I am priming and laying down a final color. Also I find it easier to see how the paint is going on if say I prime with a white and final color is an Interior Green as opposed to the molded plastic color. It’s a contrast thing.
I do agree with everyone else though. Not a 100% necessaty. Just a personal thing.
