Question about weathering: Washes

What brand of oil paint do you guys use to make your washes? I am using Reeves brand with odorless turpenoid and the oil never seems to dissolve completely.

I use Winsor Newton oils with turpenoid, but you still have to stir & stir & stir some more to dissolve all of the oil.

Regards, Rick

I use windsor and newton also.

I have two tubes Winsors but most of my supply are Abetilung 502 from MIG.

Bob

The MIG oils from 502 Abteilung are excellent oils, and formulated in Armor-specific colors. Be aware however, that the thinner from MIG is an enamel base, and takes a long time to dry.

I used mostly 502’s with some Windsor & Newton as well. I just use regular, generic hardware-store mineral spirits.and they dry quickly.

I am also in the Windsor and newton group, and use normal white spirits. Have only been useing it a short while, but as yet have not had any problems.

Well, 1, but that was self inflicted.

Windsor and Newton’s with Wally World bought Oderless Mineral Spirits.

Brian

I use the oderless mineral spirits as well and it works great with the 502s. Plus I dont have the wife screaming at me about the smell…and NO the smell isnt me…LOL

Bob

Thanks for the help guys. Think I might try the 502 oils. Been itching to try the mig pigments but havent gotten the courage up yet. I mostly use Tamiya weathering sets now.
