Question about VMA(AW)-224 cag bird aboard Coral Sea 1971-72

Does anyone know what the bureau Number was and what,if any, special markings it carried? I’ve checked my references and come up empty. Also would like to know the nose number and bureau number of the A-6A flown by Cag Roger Sheets and B/N Charlie Carr on the May 6, 1972 mission against the Bai Thoung airfield.

Thanks for any help,

Tom

GoNavy shows this www.gonavy.jp/CVW15-NL1971.html

since that totals up to 12 A-6A/B plus four tankers,I think there might not have been a CAG bird with the Marines on that cruise (all squadrons didn’t always do it)

I haven’t found anything else since the last time we talked about -224s cruise (on here or another site?)

My Uncle had one tour with them, but, it was land based, not the carrier cruise,so, his cruise book didn’t help any

Thanks, this is very useful info. You’re right, there may not have been a CAG bird in this squadron

I appreciate the help,

Tom
