Question about the Aurora 1/400 scale USS Enterprise CVN-65.

There were a few issues of this kit. Does anyone know which issues can be easily RC’d? I’d like to know if the 70’s issue was the same as the older 60’s one which I was told has gearing for motorizing. Thanks.

I’m pretty certain the '70s issue did not include the gearing for motorizing. However, I believe there was some extensive re-working on the '70s issue to include additional details, better accuracy, and a more modern complimant of aircraft. So depending on which is more important to you, you might be better off with the '70s issue or even the current RM issue of this kit (yes, it’s the same kit as the Aurora).

My recollection is that when the kit was initially released, back in the sixties, it was possible to buy a separate kit to motorize it. (No RC gear, presumably - but one or two motors, a battery box, shafts, screws, etc.) My memory may be completely messed up there, though. As I remember the kit initially cost $5.00, with several dollars more for the motorization kit - far more than I, at the age of 12 or 13, could dream of spending on such a thing.

I haven’t seen the kit outside the box for many years. My understanding is that it’s pretty crude by modern standards - but quite a nostalgia trip.
