Question about paint technique

Has anyone ever used fingernail polish to paint thier models? Is the process the same as standard pain?

Yes and sort of yes.

The process is ALMOST the same, the only difference is, you use laquer thinner to thin fingernail polish since that is all it is, is a specially formulated laquer. You also have to be concerned about a proper barrier beneath it so it won’t attack the plastic, but other then that the process is identical. You can get some spectacular finishes with fingernail polish with just a little extra work and very little effort. Plus colors you can find nowhere else.

Just get your own supply because if your wife or girlfriend catches you using her fingernail polish, it’s the doghouse for you![:)]

Ah see thats the great part. She uses a color once maybe twice and is done with it. After that its mine

Yup. I’ve used nail polish a couple times. Depending on what the nail polish is like, you may need several more coats to get it to look right. My green Civic is nail polish. It took me a about 3 jars of the green and still didn’t have enough to cover everything. The Caddy took about 3 coats with the flip/flop polish. I mix it 50/50 with lacquer thinner when airbrushing

Using her polish might not be so bad if one you explain that you won’t need much, and also you can offer to airbrush her nails(really easy if you just cut some paper the right shape to use as a loose mask like they do in salons), in which case the nails will be smoother and look MUCH nicer. I’ve done this for my wife and she LOVES how they turn out. We’ve even gone as far as I airbrush her nails with acrylics, and seal them with future after airbrushing designs and such on them. ULTRA fine artist airbrush can achieve this.
