Question about Messerschmitt 109 kits

Okay so I have two 109 kits. Both are 1:48 scale too.

First one is “Last of the Last” Me109K-4 made by Hobby Craft

Second one is Messerschmitt Bf109G made by ARII Plastic Models

I think they’re supposed to be different planes, although variations of the same one, but ultimately I’m wondering which of these is the better kit, or if either of them is worth anything. I’m trying to thin out my collection (mostly because I need money and my job is failing at providing me with money) but wanted to keep at least one of them. Thanks for the info!

Both kits are about the same when it comes to overall quality. They are not of the quality of a Tamiya or a Hasegawa kit. I have not personally layed eyes on the Hobbycraft 109 K variant but most K versions are just reboxed G variants with a couple of different parts. The inaccuracies are usally found in the fuselage panels. The K series has several changes and most inexpensive kits do not mold a whole new fuselage to change their G kits over to a K version. Neither kit is sought after and if you were to list them on eBay you would be hard pressed to get $10 bucks for either kit. They both can be build into a nice kit with a little research and extra scratch building or a good spares box. The cockpits a both very basic and need help. Good luck.

if money is an issue then look for the Fujimi kit. It’s about half the price of a Hasegawa kit and at least the same quality. The “G-K” kit actually comes out as a K out of the box. If you want to do a G you have to fill some seams and scribe a couple small ones.

Main thing on “Der Beulle” (The Bump, to it’s pilots) G-4 is the fairings over the 13mm cowl gun magazines… On the G-10/14/K, they’re still there and you can see 'em, but they’re much refined, being longer and wider, which really made for a cut in drag…

Regarding the kits though, IIRC, the Hobby Craft kits went for about 12 bucks back in the 90s… HC did a whole 109 series, B/C/D/E-4/E-7 trop, and F and the B through E all had the same fuselage with differening cowls… Gotta dig through my old FSM from that era to be sure… There’s an ad for a hobbyshop up in New York state that I ordered a lot of kits from back then, and they carried all of 'em…

Also, I think Revell did 1/48th G/K back then too… IIRC on THAT, it was a pretty good kit…

Hello,

Bf 109 K-4 (Hobby Craft) and Bf 109 G-6 (Arii) are different versions. If you absolutely want to keep one of them, keep Hobby Craft’s which is basically a copy of Revell’s Bf 109 G-10 issued in 1977 and which is a very good basic kit.

All the best,

Jicehem
