I have just a quick question regarding a reference for modelling Marine armor in WWII. Specifically, can anyone who has looked at the Ampersand Publishing Allies-Axis vol. 8, “LVT’s At The Front,” comment on the utility of this book(let) for modelling? I believe that there are pictorals on both LVTs and Marine Shermans in this issue, and I am interested in the value of both of these pictorals. Also, is there much in the way of historically acurate text, or do the articles consist solely of captioned phots? I appreciate any information.
Dave
I may have this issue, let me check on it. I lent one Axis-Aliies book to someone who never returned it, but do not recall off hand which issue it was.
I do have it. The issue consists of large black and white photos of the various LVTs and Marine Corps Shermans. I’d say the vast majority of photos are of US Army LVTs normally identified in the captions or by visible bumper numbers. There is a nice walk around of a restored LVTA4 (75mm turret).
The photos are captioned, but the captions are fairly in depth.
Rob:
Thank you for the informative reply. I would rather that the LVTs be Marine (so that I could see markings), but it still sounds useful. Getting tough to find this guy too, so I had better snap up the copy that I did come across.
Thanks again.
