At the risk of further scale polarizing, I forward to all this current Tamiya rumor: July 2005 will see the release of a set of US Infantry, and… a Brit Universal Carrier !!!
OH BOY!!! More airplane accessories.
the universal carrier would be good (if the price is right) for some aircraft dios,
i think the germans used them on there airfields as tugs or whatever else they wanted
they should do a Sd 222 armoured car, then someone could do the RAF captured ones used in Africa
You may not be as far off the mark as you think. I’m currently taking a break from armor projects with a 1/72 Spitfire. I wanted it to be displayed as flying, but Tamiya did not include a pilot. So what I did, was to cut apart a 1/72 gunner from left over from my Hasagawa M-3 Grant, and glue hime back togther as an RAF pilot.
Just to clarify, I was being sarcastic. I don’t see any other purpose for 1/48th armor. Not excited by it and not a fan at all.
If you dont like 1/48th why even brows this topic. Sheesh guys
Has anyone seen how small 1/48 figures are? When I built wingies many years ago, they were very small. A Universal carrier would sure be small, but buildable. I wanted to see Dukes 1/72 Universal next to a familiar object for a size comparison. Curious to see if Tamiya improved the detail on their 1/48 as oppossed to their 1/35th.
topics like these are NOT here for people to gratuitously offer their opiniated ideas on 1/48th scale. He was merely informing us of some modeling news, and we should be gateful to him for that. This should not turn into another 1/48 bash session, because there is NOTHING wrong with that scale and people who do not like it can stay in their rut and stick with 1/35. I realize comments like this do not help finescale, but I felt it needed to be made. There. Go ahead. Flame me now.
Dwight said the same yesterday. [:D] I concur, that is why I’m trying to be more subjective in my comments.
That’s cool, this would be a great way to do dio’s with armor and aircraft without taking up a whole lot of space. I’ve gotta get a handle on painting 1/35 figures first though!!
Not to knock yours or anyone elses idea for an armor/aircraft dio, but how many possiblities are there? I mean how many times does a tank run across an airfield or downed aircraft? I just think that you’re kind of limited or maybe I’m not looking outside the box so to speak. [;)]
I don’t know Eric, maybe like that picture of the Tiger and Stuka I posted last week. Or perhaps a Afv by a downed aircraft. I’ve seen several picts of North Afrika where there are AFVs and aircraft in close proximity. I was just trying to be positive and saying that though I pretty much build only 1/35 armour that I can see where I may do 1/48 and am glad to have that option.
Oh I wasn’t poking at you Andrew, just trying to see the possiblities. To me there isn’t much out there. I do like a Marder going by a glider in an Arnhem dio that I’ve seen. Sorry, just can’t see too many ideas. Perhaps vehicles like trucks or something, just not tanks.
Ya, I know you weren’t. I was just racking my brain(and that hurts)But I do think there’s opportunity to be creative.[:D]
Hey, I for one, would enjoy all dio creativity that there is to share with the forum. The power to all who can make it happen. [tup]
Hey guys, the more models in any scale, the better, eh?
Thanks for the news, 28juni14! I’ll see if they have those in Shizuoka next month, too.
A Universal in quarter scale from Tamiya is going to be really neat – tiny and exquisitely detailed. Thanks for the heads up, 28juni.
Heard they were going to do a Citreon also, now there’s some possiblities with aircraft dio’s there. Quite a interesting choice from Tamiya considering they are just scratching the surface in terms of armor in this scale.
On the eastern front airfields were over run plenty of times, ive read adout T34s driving over aircraft
then theres the crashed aircraft on the battle field
then the size of the dios, you can spead the armour out more
theres a photo of Shermans driving past nightfigters in concords Sherman tank book
SAS jeeps driving through an airfeild in Africa shooting at the Axis aircraft parked up
but the 1,48th armour isnt all thats going to be released there going to bring out trucks too
hopefully they bring out some aircrew figures
theres even the far east with small islands and airfields with defencive armour on the ground
just becouse you cant see any possibilitys to the mix theres peaple out there that can
i cant wait to see what peaple will come up with
