I see that 6 F-16’s were taken out of storage and converted to drones for training.
Always sad to see fighters go this way. The QF-4 Phantoms will be depleted by 2015.
The F-16 being turned into drones are early block F-16A IIRC. Most of them have been sitting around at Davis-Monthan AFB for years.
It was bound to happen one day…
I saw that aircraft in the hanger at Tindal a couple of weeks ago. I was taking detail pics of an F4 drone that a buddy of mine used to fly. I got a number of pics of the F16 engine on a carrier next to the plane, but they asked that we not take pictures of the F16 itself. If anyone would like the pics of the engine, I’ll be happy to post them.
