very nice job, i like this tank a lot and have built the icm kit and for the price (i got it on ebay real cheap) was quite a nice kit and will definatly build it again, love everything you have done with all the extra’s one thing though the grey looking jerry can looks unpainted to me may just be the pics though, great stuff and thanks for the look.
Seeing as it has a coat of dunkelgelb, a coat of grey, graphite highlights, and a coat of dust, I’ll take your observation as an acknowledgement of my light touch. [:I]
Just beautiful. I’m glad you included a parts listing. Can you let me know, in your opinion, and not counting the tracks, which two of the AM sets are the most worthwhile…
I have this same kit, and want to improve it as well, but I’m not sure where to start…
What did you scratchbuild? Got any pics? References?
I know its a mouthful to ask, but I refuse to buy the Tasca one, I’d much rather enjoy improving the ICM offering.
Good job! I really like that kit. Great job on the PE star antenna![bow] I munched mine so bad I made a replacement out of styrene. Also nice job on the decal over the turret hatch.
Superb Robert. Really nicely done. I assume they are the kits tracks since they weren’t mentioned in your ad-on list? Did you have any problems with them? I really like this kit.
The tracks are on my list (WWII Productions) and they are out of this world. I can’t say too much about the kit links. The individual links looked pretty good, but I had the AM tracks, so I used them.
If you can only choose two, I would get the Eduard PE set. The improvements it makes to the fenders, grills, compression fittings, and tool clasps are absolutely necessary in my book. Second would be a replacement barrel. The one in the kit is trash!
The biggest error with the ICM kit is the front. Instead of a straight shot from top to bottom, the front armor plate should have an angle where it meets the lower hull. This requires you to remove about 6mm off the bottom of the front plate and 6mm off the front of the lower hull (just enough to prevent hurting the suspension point). Here are a couple pics of the fix:
I also scratchbuilt a new front track hanger. The one in the kit is garbage and the one in the Jaguar resin set required too much clean-up and modification to fit properly. The only thing I would have done differently with my effort would have been to use slightly thinner stock styrene than I used. Here’s my hanger:
And then, there are a BUNCH of welds that need to be added in order to be accurate. Here’s just one example:
