Hi all. As some of you know im building a PZ IV too. I bought Modelkasten tracks for said vehicle as the kit didnt have any tracks at all in it (2nd Hand) and upon finishing them i find they dont fit on the Ausf H drive sprocket. The sprocket has 20 teeth. I tried the tracks on a sprocket on my Sdkfz 165 (Hummel) and they fit a treat. (21T)The drive sprockets do look different. Isnt the hummel sat on a Pz IV chassis? Im confused. The tracks i bought were the Modelkasten SK17. Were these the wrong tracks? My Kit is the early Tamiya version. Sorry for all the questions but you guys are far brighter than me.
Hi Guy i think you have to sand the insides of the teeth i beleive they are too fat check the track instructions it should tell what is nessesary to make them fit.
Hey Guy! Send me your address in a PM, and I’ll send you my Hummel drive sprockets and you can adapt/modify them to fit the Tamiya hull–I have an extra Hummel kit that I use for spares ust like this! Would that be an option you would be interested in? That way you wouldn’t have to waste your Hummel kit, nor your Pz IV?
OR–I have a couple of PZ IV “rubber band” tracks that I could let ya have, and you could save the MK’s for the Hummel? Or maybe you could just save the MK’s for the Hummel any way and use the DML tracks for the Tamiya kit?
Let me know if you would like me to mail you any of this stuff?!
Hey thx guys. Ron, your right in saying sand the inner edges of the drive sprocket. Thats what the MK instructions said i would have to do. I started the 1st one only to find that the sprocket didnt fit the tracks. It seems the tracks are designed for 21 tooth sprockets and not 20 tooth. Makes the sprocket way to tight on the track. Boooo. Doogster, that sounds like a very generous offer. You da man. PM sent.
