Purchasing kits and figures

Fireball2 - I find the prices to be reasonable. Delivery of on-line orders is free for orders over $70 and I typically get next day delivery from Mississauga to Aurora.

@PaulC My go to online hobby shop. I can’t count on two hands how many orders I’ve placed with them. Usually one week delivery to Warman (Saskatoon) SK.

Cheers,

Frozin brings back fond memories of my military time in Japan with a 250 yen rate…i still have some of those. Nowadays Ebay is my goto, i have a couple runing searches with my favorite subjects. Ebay is combination retail hobby, estate sale and “swapping” with like minded people.

JackQ I to remember that 250 yen rate. I still have some yen along with Thai baht and Hong Kong dollars among a couple others.

No one mentioned it, but local model shows that allow vendors are a nice place to find bargain kits. It’s where I pick up most of my kits nowadays, among other supplies. The ones I attend usually have no sales tax and no shipping, though you might have to spend some gas to get there!

GAF you have a point there, but the shows have to be reasonably accessible. To my knowledge there has never been a show like that in North Texas. I have been to a railroad show here in Dallas but that’s been 35+years ago. Those shows do not come to North Texas that I am aware of.Fireball2.

Your right. When I lived in NJ the guy from Alpine Figures made a lot of the shows and usually offered deep discounts on some of his figures.

Plastic desert? Try Houston if you want to see a plastic desert.

I was just in the Dallas area recently, where I stopped in a HobbyTown in Plano to pick up some supplies. HobbyTown might not be the best, but it’s better than anything I have anywhere near me in Katy west of Houston (although to be fair, there is a shop that I believe is near downtown Houston, some 30-odd miles from me and just not worth making a trip for some paint or what-not).

Of course, this leads to the obvious observation - won’t drive 30ish miles to a local shop, but will drive 5 hours to a shop in Plano? Well, that was a stop on our way to visit our son and grandson a couple of weeks ago. If our son ever moves from his current location, then I won’t be going to that HobbyTown.

Aggieman there is a Hobbytown not very far from me but it has more to do with RC and Rail Road. Scale models are limited as well as paints and accessories. As far as I know that’s it from here to Ft. Worth. Fireball2

Go to IPMS shows and see what the vendors have. My fav is Verlinden multi-pose in 1/48th scale and crisp resin details. Tamiya has decent figures also. Best hobby shop ever is Brookhurst Hobbies in Cali.

I have 4 sources for most of my military kits and figures. Andy’s Hobby Headquarters and Michigan Toy Soldier along with Amazon are my online sources. Local swap meets, my local Hobby shop, and flea markets are my other sources. I guess that was a few more than 4.
