Growing up I a rural Mississippi town the Stearman had a lot to do with my love of airplanes. My grandfather had a friend down at the municipal airport that owned and maintained a Stearman. I was exceedingly fortunate to be able to hitch a ride in one a couple of times along with a Super Decathlon. I spent many more countless hours “flying” from the ground as the gentleman was nice enough to let my brother and I hang out in the hanger on Saturdays just sitting in the cockpit dreaming.
Anyway, for nostalgia reasons I’d really love to build one up. I dot think I’ve ever seen one in kit form. Anyone know of anything out there. I’d really prefer 48th or bigger. I’d google it, but I figure this is what forums are for. Thanks guys…and gals.
Lindberg have the kit of the Stearman in 1/48. It is a cheap and quite basic kit. I have this kit so I can tell you you may will need to work on it a litte, as all Linberg kits. However this is the only kit in 1/48 of this subject as far I know. http://www.squadron.com/product-p/li72582.htm Squadron have it in a really cheap price. I know Revell also have it but in 1/72. Yup, Lindberg is the only option in 48th, I believe Revell has one in 72nd???
It appears as though the Lindberg kit has recently been re-issued…there’s one at my LHS for $16.99…a bit much for my wallet! I nabbed one off a vendor table for $1, last year!

Fermis, I’m going to try the old switcheroo with the old ladies angel when we put our tree up; that’s too cool. I assume you’ve decorated by replacing the colorful little bulbs with various winged thingies too? Lol. Ahh…maybe I won’t push my luck. One or two under the tree would be nice.

Starting cockpit… Evergreen Styrene Channel for the foot-rails, stretched sprue for cross-members… Hole in wing are for control sticks.
Scratch-built panels… Rear of panel painted black, cut from styrene sheet (“For Sale” sign from hardware store). Front of panel drilled with various sizes of bits. Glued to rear of panel and used a straight-pin in a pin-vise to scratch away black paint inside holes, making tick-marks and needles for instruments… If you dont have a large assortment of bits, just drill a small hole and enlarge it with X-Acto knife blade by twisting blade in hole. Rear bulkhead is sheet styrene cut to shape and sanded…
Below- Creative Gizmology 101: Stringers and framing made from stretched sprue, with sheet styrene “bits & pieces” used for throttle quadrant, map-cases, and other cockpit greeblies…
