Does anyone know if pt boat hulls were 2 colors or were they all olive drab? More specificly the color of the hull on PT 109.
try squadron book on pt boats.
As always, it depends. If you are modeling it coming out as a brand new boat it would be a dark gray upper surface and light gray hull. If you are modeling it at the time JFK had it the boat would be all one color which as near as anyone can guess today was a dark forest green. Specifically a 5-NG Navy Green lightened for scale.
Somewhere in this forum I posted detailed instructions on building an accurate PT-109 in 1/72 scale.
At the time of her loss, PT-109 had been repainted into what was known as “Tropical Green”, a field mix using equal parts of 5-TM blue-black tinting paste and 5-GTM green tinting paste, mixed into 5-U White. We have the color matched and available in our Colourcoats enamels, order item US 29.
As was correctly stated above, when first put into operation she was painted with #5 Standard Navy Gray (Colourcoats US 01) hull, and 5-D Dark Gray (Colourcoats US 04) cabins and decks.
There is no minimum order on paints, and we ship worldwide. Feel free to contact me directly with any questions.
