what is a good psi to set compresser on for airbrushing small scale warbird models? kinda new to airbrushing and tips for camo patterns of me-109 would be helpful any sites you can recommend or tech’s for a good job on the plane.[?]
Depends on your Airbrush and paint/thinner ratio.
As a sidenote been reading an interesting book about airbrushing and the book recommends to get a barometer so that you can see the air-pressure as he reckons air-pressure will affect your finish as much as humidity and air-temperature.
thanks! i know it is always humid here in georgia[banghead]
I airbrush with enamels and usually thin about 50/50 thinner to paint. Run my air pressure between 11 and 18 psi depending on what I’me trying to paint (eg large areas, thin lines etc). You’ll need to experiment with your thinner/paint mixture and airpressures to find what works best for you.
in the 15-30 PSI ballpark should be good. shoot test patterns to find out whats best. by the way, singapore has 70% relative humidity all year round …[:-^]
Reg - try using the metal color cup and the 50/50 thinned paint maybe a little more thinner… see if you can get below 15psi, I can… and the Texas/Louisiana border here is about the same humidity… try only putting a small amount of paint in at a time too… I notice with less paint I get better results…
Hi flightplan:
For a really good site go to www.hyperscale.com. Once there, click on “Reference” and then scroll down to an article written by Lee Rouse that should really help you out[:D]

The correct PSI is relative to the viscosity of the paint . The most important thing is to get your paint to atomize properly. Do a test on some scrap to see if your getting a nice fine spray. If not, either thin the paint. or turn up the air pressure

Hi flightplan
i use around 50: 50 paint n thinner ratio with psi of 15 to 18 sometime maybe 20.
but as they all test them out on a scrap first . anyway i use alcrylic. not sure about enamel though
Anyway i just wondering if the airbrush got anything to do with it ? as i was using double action kind of olympus airbrush from japan ( a copy of the older verison of the iwata AB ) either it was fine , medium or wide needle .
