Props to Accurate Miniatures

I belive based on my limited run in this hobby that the two leaders are Tamiya for overall quality and Accurate for their great selection, their quality and detail. I have many times complained however about the directions accompanying the avenger kits. I have said in the past they are dismal. The old ones are, I am curious about the George Bush Avenger directions. However. I recently began the Dauntless (Coral sea version) and I am happy to say I am almost through the cockpit, something I cannot get through on the avengers, and almost ready to put the fuselage together. Now, I may still melt down completly but it looks good so far, even with the detail int he cockpit regarding the rails that slide under the instrument panel. The directions are much better and they walk you through logically, telling you where to be extra careful. The drawings could still improve but they are making improvements.

I do have one question. I would like to convert this to an Atlantic scheme, I love the grey and white. Were there Dauntlesses on the Atlantic carriers or were there just the avengers? If I go Aytlantic, what duid the rondels look like?

Thanks accurate and keep improving those instructions. The kits are great.

Tamiya, give us a B17, come on we need a 1:48 chock full of detail and good fit!!!

The Dauntless flew off the USS Ranger during Operation Torch- they had yellow outlines around the national insignia and were of the two-color scheme-- with intermediate blue on top and the neutral gray below…

So, no grey on white as I see for the avengers?

Thanks

TBM 1C VC42 USS Bogue (CVE-9) Sept. 1944 gray on white. Aeromaster sheet #48-292

I can double check the text-- but the scheme I have in Flying Colors, the top color looks a lot like the middle color in the Navy’s tri-color scheme of later Dauntlesses…I’ll check when I get home unless someone beats me to it here…

The reference from Swanny is correct. The Dauntless did indeed appear in the Grey over white Atlantic scheme.
