Looks pretty good man! A little clean for my tastes, but I like the cammo!! The fig is pretty good too!
…thanks, I think it does need another good raw umber wash…the VLS fig has been kicking around for around 15 years (painted) and finally found a home…
Really nice zimm, Manstein…is it the “hot knife” method?
One thing: on Panthers, you want to make sure you silver-wear the inner road wheels where they contact the metal guide horns. You can see them in my pic here of a late G depicted at the Kustrin area…

I can see a lot of nice PE work on this one as well. Well done![swg]
…yeah, I was just too lazy to do that wear on the inner wheels…the zimm is actually two-part Tamiya putty…I replicated the tank from a pic in Tamiya Armour Modelling magazine that had a lot of zimm articles in it…thanks for the feedback…
Great job Manny. What tool did you use? You’ve got quite an array of fine builds here.
…I actually used a tool that came with an edition of Japan’s Armour Modelling magazine…it is simply a plastic handle with a couple of plastic, round cogs that you insert in the tip and then you can “roll” it over your putty…haven’t seen it yet in the States although it is a Tamiya item…I have seen a lot of guys build their own with gears, etc…
Beautiful work, Erich Von. Working on my Panther A late model today, home sick from work.
…thanks for the kind words; hope you get to feeling better…
…might as well build models while you are home; that always makes me feel better…LOL
That tool is also made by AFV and is one that I use. A great thing. I do remember that issue with the zimm tool, they sold out like hot cakes around here!
…cool, where did you order it? I let someone “borrrow” mine, and well…
Time to attempt Zimmerit on the rear plate: I’m using your pic as a model (a model for a model; who knew?) coz my references are lacking on the rear end!
Anyone have any historical pics of Zimmerited rear-ends of Panthers to share?
I’m using borrowed Zim tools too, BTW – thanks, Chris!
[tup] One word… “Gorgeous”!
Very NIIIICE Eric Von! Love the zim. Perhaps not as “dirty” as is usually expected but I like it anyway! Your building and painting skills are top notch! You know, I’ve tried the roller method (AFV’s tool) for zim but the putty keeps sticking to the roller and pulling up from the plastic. How did you keep that from happening?
…thanks, I had trouble with it sticking as well…just tried to keep the roller clean and wet…I have heard that talcum powder works as well; might try that next…
Believe it or not, Ron, when I did a StuH 42 in waffle-iron zimm, I used a scratchbuilt press and dipped it into a bottlecap full of WD-40 to stop the putty from sticking. Worked like a charm, and I had zero problems with paint not sticking–just wash the model in light soapy water after you do this step.
…there are tons of every day items that you can use for patterning zimm…
Great job, the klutz who zimmed this D in the field, was probably the same guy who sprayed over the driver and radio operator vision blocks…[;)]
Seriously, besides the sprayover, one heck of a model congrats…
regards,
Steve
LOL…yeah, he was sent to the Eastern front for that snaffu…wait, he was already at the Eastern front, never mind…
…plan on using some of that Aves for my next zimm project…!!!
