Actually, it is a good kit. There is lots of detail. There were some fit issues, but they are also fairly typical (wing root gaps). This plane is just so damn big! It should be interesting come paining time. I cemented in the cockpit last night so I’ll have some pics in a day or two.

Man,
This is taking me forever. I’ve been really busy with work, and when I have the time, I am finding it hard to get motivated to work on this kit. I finally put the cockpit in, fitted the canopy( a fair bit of adjustment was needed), and I have started to mask the canopy- thanks Eduard! I also cleaned up the propellers/spinners and painted them. Next up is to cement on the canopy and paint. Would anyone recommend using the clear parts cement or regular styrene cement (I use Testors blue tube)?

Man that pit is a work of art Rob!! I would probably go with the clear parts stuff. I’d hate for something to happen to the canopy on this one as sharp as it is becoming. Gonna have to get me one of these!

[dto:]…(should be spelled DITTO by the way)…and if you decide to use CA or testors tube glue I would dip the canopies in future first to avoid crazing. Just my[2cnts]

That cockpit looks really nice! I have one of them in the stash - after seeing yours maybe I’ll move it up the list. I agree with using clear parts cement as well. I’d hate to see it get fogged or damaged by regular glue or CA.

Working reeeaaallly slowly, but getting things done. I masked the canopy with Eduard masks, primed the model with Tamiya grey primer, and used Model Master Acrylics for the RLM 65/70/71 colours. Tomorrow I will apply Future, then onto the decals.

Glad to see this one back on the first page Rob! The splinter turned out great, I think MM nailed these colors in their acrylic line.

Well, it is finally done. It was a bit of a battle overall- decals were the biggest challenge. They are dated 1995. I had coated the sheet with a film from microscale- it was the only way to hold them together. Heavy coats of microsol were used to get the decals to stick- often several coats, usually an hour or two later after they started to curl at the edges. The yellow stripes fragmented- luckily I was able to tease them together. When I pulled the masks off the canopy, I was really disappointed to see some clouding on several areas from the inside. I used a small amount of blue Testor’s glue and the glue for clear parts to glue the canopy on. They were also coated with Future, so I am not sure what happened. so, here’s another for the shelf! Great lookin’ kit you got there!!!
I just finished my He 111H-22 as well (pics later this week), and I know what you mean about the fogging on the glass when you take off the mask. OOHH Shoot how’d that happened was something close to what I said ! I had to cut off the front part of glass, wiped and refutured.
