OK, in another thread here, Rick (aka MarkIV) came up with this idea for a new thread… we’ve all got projects that are on the back burner and would like to someday complete (well, DON’T WE?? Is it just ME??). Perhaps I should only speak for myself, but I know full-well that many of these will never see proper display status.
Here is one (of many) of mine to start the ball rolling. I’m almost ashamed to say that I started this one OVER 20 YEARS AGO. MAYBE I’ll finish it some day… (yeah, as if…)
It’s an old Revell 1:32 UH-1D, and it’s the one Rick spoke of when he said that I’ve been dragging it out of the back of the model closet for years now. It’s been so long now that pieces are starting to fall off it and some parts, such as the door-gunner’s bench, are starting to warp. Here’s a close-up of the same photo (I just took the picture a few minutes ago):
I don’t know whether to tear it apart and rebuild it, continue as planned, or just abandon it and start a new one. At one point I decided not to start any new projects until I finished an old one, but this has placed me at a stand-still. Maybe I need to just put this one aside and start a new project.
Let’s see what everyone ELSE has hidden from view. Come on, blow some of that dust away and show us what you’ve ALMOST got! (Doesn’t have to be helicopters, either, although feel free to start a similar thread in another category… Rick?? I could probably come up with a few old unfinished car models, as well…)
I just finished a couple of models that I had sitting around for a year or two. One was an ancient BAe Harrier whose tailcone got accidentally vacuumed up by my mom several years ago. I finally got around to sculpting a new one and painting it. I also finished an AH-64 that I had been putting off because I didnt want to try to put the decals on the tiny 1/72 Hellfires. But it turned out OK. FITTER, it might just be the angle, but that chopper looks huge! What scale is it?
Oh, and I like the M-16 slung over the seat! did that come in the kit or did you add it?
I kinda liked the M-16 idea myself, thanks. No, it wasn’t part of the kit… I believe it was from a Tamiya figures set. The Huey is the old Revell 1:32 scale UH-1D which came out in the '60’s. Even by today’s standards, it’s not too bad. I have a few more left, and I’m not sure if I should finish this one first or start a new one.
Here are a couple more close-ups:
(Things are looking kinda dusty in here!)
I took the interior apart (the fuselage 1/2’s weren’t yet cemented together) to ge a better shot; more pieces started falling off. One of the door-gunners’ benches is lying to the right, and the transmission is on the left.
The detail may not be the finest in the land, but it would look cool as a ceiling hanger once I install a full crew. I guess I should just get busy on it so I can start a new one; maybe this time I’ll build a Dust-Off ship
From the pictures, yeah, looks quite good, In my country, kits like that would cost me quite a hefty sum!I bet I would have lots of friends who would die just to have the opportunity to build it here. Hope you finish it someday
Why is it, I get 90% finished with a helicopter or airplane kit and just can’t go anymore, yet I blaze through armor kits like its going out of style? I’ve got four 1/32 Cobras still building (finally finished the first one) and I’ve just started, built, detailed and finished an M1A1 Abrams in three days!
Mr Fitter you do not stand alone. Not only do I have a Revell 1/32 Huey sitting half done,
I have started another one.I also have one on the shelf suffering from sever hanger
rash from the shop move. Then there’s the one I did about 25 years ago that has been re glued umpteen times.Forget about it. That baby looks like she is worthy of being
finished.Nice work for sure.
When did we become our own forum ? This is fantastic.Happy days are here again. Thanks for the nice pics. Dave
