Academy p-51d in 1/72 scale, modified to represent a “what if” version of a naval mustang: P-51J or F1J-5
Several trials were carried out during WW2 to see if the p-51 was suited for naval operations. The program was eventually canceled, but its always nice to dream!
As for the naval designation, most aircraft at the time were designated based on the manufacturer/production: (status prefix)(type)(manufacturer sequence)(manufacturer code) – (configuration number) (general purpose/modifications). So, for the P-51, the operational model wold not have the X/Y prefix, F for fighter, 1 for manufacturer sequence (making the FJ Fury the second plane ordered from North American–F2J Fury?), J for the manufacturer code, and configuration 5 (a model mustang is 1, b mustang is 2, c is 3, d is 4, H/J would be 5), and I figured it might have a special purpose designator to show that it is a navalized version, but Im not sure what the code would be; (N was for nightfighter, C for carrier??); Thus F1J-5(C)
