Were are some pictures of my latest build. Its not done yet obviously.
I was looking at the plethora of decals provided by DML and i got confused becuase dragon only shows were to put the numbers. I was wondering where the others would go such as those pretty white and red boxes, the white egals and that small looking sheild in the right bottem hand corner. Also with the camo pattern i did would i use the red, blue or balck numbers.
Also with these tactical markings where would they go.
Thank you ofr all your help in advanced. This place is invaluble to me.
Now I cant answer all your questions as far as insignia goes but I can answer a few, i’m no expert but I do have a book called Wehrmacht Camouflage and markings 1939-1945 so this is the reference I can use to answer them.
The numbers were white for the most part when placed on a gray overall paint but starting late 1940 the switch was on to change them to red for better visability though you would still see white being used all the way thru 1945. there was no reference to blue at all, so I’m not sure how blue was used except maybe for Luftwaffe but thats just a guess.
As for the crosses use the black baltic cross with white outline on both sides and rear. the solid black was used mainly for solid colored Afrika Korps schemes and for the overall yellow used from mid 43, as well as winter camo.
The bottom picture of insignia appears to be unit insignia not tactical, ie… division or group. normally used on the passenger front fender or right front corner, and right rear door.
The tactical which resembles boxes with wheels or a track with flags or whatever sticking out of it is used on the drivers front fender or front left corner of the vehicle and and drivers side rear door, on your pictures its the top one down towards the bottom right corner above the black numbers though its hard for me to see exactly.
as for the boxes with writing in them they are just vehicle specs used inside the vehicle in different spots, not sure exactly as I dont have the reference for them.
All the reference I gave you pertains to the Wehrmacht, the SS have a different setup for their insignia, at least tactical and divisional placing.
Like I said i’m not an expert, just thought i’d give it a shot to help out , good luck.
excellent work so far on the model awasoda!! very cool. my only advice would be to look online for which units had which symbols, and where they might have been placed.
BTW- those read and white boxes, those aren’t for a german vehicle. they’re actually the polish tactical symbol. not sure why the poles would be using german vehicles with that symbol though, cuz that symbol was used only for the free non-communist poles, fighting with the brits and americans, and they would have been issued us halftracks and bren carriers. so i dont know.
The crosses I believe would go nearly next to the gun shield on the outside and one on the middle of the back door. One of the big white ones with all the stuff written on it would go above the middle stowage compartment and the little black one would go next to it, if looking at the engine on the left side, it would go to the left. Like so:
I dont know if that pic is correct because I saw others witht the cross in different spots.
Sorry I cant help more.
the Eagles are for the free polish fighters aswel
theres a photo in “May 1945 in the Czech lands - Tomas Jakl” its got loads of peaple posing on it but you can see the cross below the gun shield and the numbers as 324 (maybe black with white outline) next, i cant see any big badges on the side
Hi. awasoda.
Here goes are you ready donn’t use decal #17 thru to 23 as they refer to a 251/22 captured by polish forces in the warsaw up rising. #10 thru to 15 are freight movement stencils they go below both side vision slits use black. #23 tactical markings these go front and rear on the top right hand sides of the engine front plate and rear armoured panelaway from the rear doors roughly between 1 and 2 oclock. #25 are unit markings, the small extra decal sheet the same top ones rerlate to the Herman Goring Div. the lower sets belong to the various Infantry Div’s Pz.Jager companies these markings will go on the opposit sides to the tactical markings.
most of the vehicles would use the thin black numbers some with or with out the balken cross.
hope this will help you I used to be an Artillery observer in my last job! the german army to this day uses the same system it works well.
happy modelling have a good easter.
reguards panzermann.
Hi awasoda.
I was being very ignorant then fogot to comment on that fine looking 22[:D][8D][bow]. I realy like the cammo scheme looks sharp when done using blue-tac masks, awsoooome.
Reguards panzermann.
Thank you very much for all your kind words and advice. Now that i have a better understanding i’ll go and put the decals on when i have time. Right now i have to right an essay of Western Europe after world war two. Hopefully when thats done i’ll give my baby some gloss coat and then put her decals on.
Thanks again.
Thank you Thank you all. I just need some time form school to be able to put the decals on. Once thats done ill need to weather them into the scheme and then add the gear. This hsoudl be fun!
heh good luck, i just picked up a tamiya 1/35 scale Sdkfz251"Hanomag" and a PAK-40 to go with it, and im thinking of doing it in Afrika Korps Colors. my first half-track too, should be lots of fun.
Well i used some easy tack, like silly putty to make an outline. The only thing is there area a few spots of over spray and buildup that you cant see from the camera, once i drybrush it is should be less vissible and if worse comes to worse ill jsut hand something over it haha.
