Here are some progress pictures of my Quad and 25pdr. Building these for the Towed Group Build and Small AFV Build.
The 25pdr is OOB but I am adding PE detail to the Quad as well as a scratch build tire rack and a tow cable to the wench. Comments and suggestions welcome.
Joe,
i think you mean ‘winch’ ! [:D][:p][:D]
looking great.
i am working on the same kit & have 2 questions:
what is that ‘rack’ that the spare is sitting on?
i don’t think there is one of those in my kit.
i assume that you are still getting ready to paint the tires on the back sides?
because i think the rubber extends down to the next ‘ring’ going toward
the center. not sure why Tamiya molded it like that, as it will make
painting much harder.
i agree w/ the others: the exhaust looks excellent!
Gee great . What kit is this I havn’t seen this around for quite a long time This was the first kit I ever built and liked way back when I still had mothers milk around my mouth. so if you could give me info it would be most appreciated.
Jimq,
if he is building the same one i am (and i think he is)
it is a 1/35 Tamiya kit that has Quad, limber & 25 pounder together.
(Tamiya 35044 abt $24 US)
they also box Quad & gun separately.
(Quad alone -Tamiya 35045 abt $15US)
(can’t find # for just the gun, but i have seen it in my LHS, i think
unless that was the 6 pounder).
in any case, the combo kit is a great deal.
Alan
i did too a few minutes ago, but the pics are back now.
Jimq,
they should be able to get it, it is still in production.
it is a nice kit; i am getting ready to paint sub assemblies on the Quad,
and have started to build the limber.
some tricky painting (for me) as some of the parts ‘shield’ others,
so i may have to paint, assmble & paint some more.
Yep it’s the 1/35 Tamiya with 25pdr. Thanks for the comments. Still have some work to do but I’m hoping to finish this month.
Lizarding2: I attached a link that shows what I was tring to achieve. I had to guess on a few things but that thing in the middle of the tire is suppose to be a bolt that is used to hold the tire down. Like a spare tire in a car. Not sure what it would be called.
Gderue: That’s RUSTALL. That stuff is great. I used to hate simulating rust but that stuff makes it easy.
Wildwilliam: LOL guess I need to work on my spelling too. I added the rack to hold the tire because all the ref photos I came across showed the tire mounted to this thing. If it didn’t have a rack it didn’t have a spare tire. It made sense to me becaused I couldn’t see how the tire would stay setting at that angle. It will also give me a nice area to place gear. Not sure why Tamiya did not add this or why there is not an aftermarket one available.
Regarding the Tires…doh! That’s why it looks strange. Well looks like I need to fix the seam there and apply some more black. I really appreciate pointing that out.
Joe,
we will call it even, since you have clued me in on the rack.
of course, i drilled out the holes for the ‘flush mount’ Saturday . . .
ooops!
i just figured they had some kind of plate like the one on the rack,
just mounted flat to the rear deck.
hmmm . . . .
i have painted some of the underside & the axles and ‘inside’ parts of the wheel tire.
now i have to figure out how to assemble & paint for the pesky tires.
Wildwilliam: That’s always a possiblity. There is hook or some type of mechanism on the bottom of the rack. I have also seen this on quads without the rack. There is just not alot of info. To bad there wasn’t a resident FSM quad expert.
Yeah those tires. I will have to figure that one out. Hey where were you earlier.[:)]
We could of built this thing together.
