production of 1/32 scale aircrew

Hello again . well finally i have a little free time .so i’ve been pondering ! [:P]

I’m a freelance sculptor and i’m shortly going to try to get some of my own figure kits into production ,

now I really want to do something a little different so because I collet flight gear too I opted to do pilots and aircrew .

i’d like to ask ,what if any Aircrew figures would you guys most like to see .

as in what era ? standing or seated ? what nationality ?

I was pondering doing a totally accurtae 80/90’s U.S.N. pilot to compliment Trumpies

Sluff to begin with but would like to cater for demand from a business perpective naturally. I’m interested in your thoughts on this . any ideas are most welcome and as they progress i’ll of course post them here on FSM , cheers K .[;)]

Hello again steel-dog,

I would have to agree with your thought of creating 1/32 scale 80/90’s pilot(s). However, as you are aware the helmets have changed. Could you create and or include different styles of head gear, i.e. the HGU-33, 66, etc. I’d buy a set from you. I’ve got that 1/32 scale Tamiya F-14A I’m going to start soon and some great figures would be a plus.

Hi navyao

yes mate i thought about that , i was thinking of including differening helmets also seperate and different oxygen masks too ,. mbu 14- mbu 23 so they could be brought right upto date thanks for your input

K

What about groundcrew? There is a crying need for a set of, say, 3 figures wearing overalls or perhaps simply long trousers and shirts which diorama builders could use or perhaps alter simply to provide realistic ground crew from virtually any era. Separate heads and perhaps a choice of arms would make things so much easier when building 32 scale aircraft/helos.

A good set would have me reaching for the wallet!! Please, please…?

hi Collin Excellent idea mate !

thanks !

I hang up a large majority of my aircraft kits, even if they have landing gear down. Few of the newer kits have seated pilot figures, so that is what I would like to see. I mostly build WW II stuff, so that would be the era I would be interested in. I’d be interested in both 1/32 and 1/48 scale.

Bill

1/48 is getting pretty small, but… I agree 80/90’s ground crew/maintenance crews would be terrific. USAF being my choice.[:D]

I would also vote for USAF air and ground crew in 1/32 scale. Most of the kits of USAF crews I have seen, the pilot is wearing a helmet while standing or walking. That is not correct as they carried the helmet in a bag and placed it in the cockpit when doing their walk around. Vietnam and post Vietnam crews would be what I would look for.

Do you take credit cards?[:D]

Great ideas all!

How about Navy deck crew!? And while You´re at it, You could do some “tie-down-points”(?) as well.

I agree with Collin, a good set of 1/32 ground crew would be great, especially from the Vietnam era on to modern. I’d open my wallet for a good set.

This seems to be taking off!!! Since I note from your ID you are in England, could I make a plea for groung crew or pilots in UK kit?? I spend sssooooo much time trying to change all those USA pattern figures to UK spec. my scalpel finger hurts! There is a distinct lack of UK figures, and yes, I know there are many more 1/32 scale American wingy thingys on the shelves than there are UK, but a Phantom or Tornado or Typhoon in UK markings with a UK crew and ground crew attending would be so cool…please, please?

Wow thanks for the great response Chaps .

some stunning ideas here . Especially the Brit ground crew .

i would like to infact do them all eventually , I have to confess i initially didnt even think of doing ground crew .

how do you think …say a 3 Crew 1 Pilot boxed set would go down ? maybe pilot climbing the ladder crew chief interacting with him and the remaining two doing typical thing one crouching ? one inspecting ? thanks again ,Really . you have shown me its going to be worth doing !

another Question though .whats you prefered media ? Resin . Metal ? [:)]

A four box set would be great. I would also like to see a pilot walking or just standing talking with the maintenance people. I would rather have resin figures over metal.

Hi berny yes , thanks for that . i prefer resin too a little more expensive but much better in my opinion too i agree airforce pilot helmetless with bag chatting ,

in fact meant to mention ,i have already started a BoB Spitfire pilot in 1/32 wearing an Irvin sheepskin doing the dogfight thing with his hands and with life preserver over his shoulder , i’ll post some pics soon .

I think the Viet Nam to present day would be nice. Another idea that I don’t remember seeing is maybe have the extremities, torsos, and heads separate. That could open a lot of possible positions than in just certain poses. As far as nationality is concerned, it wouldn’t matter to me.[2c]

Hello Leadsled . hmmm good point . i toyed with the idea of having multipose figures all with loosly connectin ball joints , the modeler would then only need a bit of skill and putty to fill it kind of like an action figure is presented almost though in 1/32 .

I’m very interested in Vietnam era too. I do deffinitley plan on doing at least one Vietnam navy/marines pilot with coirrect helmet and mask . K
