I have not yet gotten a primer for my models, but I would like to get one. However, the only primer I’ve seen is Testors’, which is in a spray can. I do not use spray cans; only airbrushes and of course brushes. Does Testors or Tamiya sell a primer? I’m not sure if my local hobby shop has any primer; I was just too lazy to look last time I was there.[:)]
Most primers people refer to are a spray can…however I suppose you could “prime” the plastic by using an airbrush by shooting a coat of white or grey over whatever your trying to prime…
I agree with Chris. Priming is for checking for any final flaws prior to shooting the color coat, and for giving tooth for the color coat to adhere to. You could theoretically prime with any color, but white, and light to medium grays are probably the best, IMHO. I kinda think the priming color should be based on what your color coat is going to be. Floquil’s reefer white, and any of the Testor’s or Tamiya flats would be good.

i use Floquil grey from their railroad enamels as a primer.
it has good grip and airbrushes well.
i used it to prime my 1/32 Stuka that i painted w/ ModelMaster Acryl.
i encountered no adhesion problems.

Thanks a lot, guys! Just using grey or white paint will make it much easier now! I had always thought that primer was something to help the paint adhere better, but now I understand. Thanks again!
