OK noob question time again… Is it OK to spray primer over primer of different brands and types without any adverse reaction?.. I want to spray my body panels with badger stynylrez grey to pick out any imperfections… But then want to put a coat of vallejo metal gloss primer on it in preparation for the metal paint coat? Thanks in advance
Sure, it could be. Do a test on something you don’t care about and give it plenty of time to cure between coats, then report back.
I’ve started using Stynylrez and it’s love at first sight. It seems to be thin, tough, adheres well and actually comes up to a medium sort of level of polish with a paper towel rub.
Other modelers report mixed results with Vallejo primer adhering to plastic. I cannot vouch for that one way or the other since I don’t use Vallejo paint. So if you could get your particular witches brew there to work, please report.
I’m currently testing Alclad over Stynylrez, but that wasn’t your question.

thank you for your input… I have always used both stynylrez and vallejo primers… Stynylrez for body work and vallejo for everything else… Never had an issue with either of them they are both great(other than vallejo not being sandable of course)… I’ve just never used them both together before… But great advice I’ll dig out a plastic spoon and see how it works out 
I use Stynylrez and have put any number of different paints over it successfully. I can’t imagine there is anything toxic to the Stynylrez in the Vallejo. But as mentioned when in doubt test. Let us know how it goes !
Picked up a bottle of Stynylrez,since the LHS was out of Tamiya,do you spray that stuff right out of the bottle?
Usually I do yes. Give it a really good shaking up ahead of putting in your cup.

Yes right out of the bottle 25 to 30 psi. No thinning needed just shake well.
I spray it straight from the bottle at 15psi with a 0.5 needle and it goes on like a dream…
Hmm I wonder if my .35 needle will make a difference, I use Iwata HP-CS
I’ve shot it through a .25 Badger nozzle, both slightly thinned and also not thinned. I prefer the slightly thinned method with that nozzle which only makes sense.
I’m using a .35 so it takes a bit more pressure but still goes on like a dream.
That paper towel thing works. Just tried it and it certainly does smooth out the stynylrez with just a little wiping. Outstanding.
Sometimes you might get some dust flecks in the primer, I use steel wool to polish up Stynylrez and get out any flecks of dust etc. 000 or 0000. Takes paper towels to the next level when needed, you need no weight bearing with 000. Works great for me but I have the steel wool on hand for my wood turnings. Just sayin.
So yes it seems vallejo metal gloss primer does go down over stynylrez primer without any issues… Also I have to say I’m loving the vallejo metal colours they are great…
So stupid (or lazy) question time again… Some of my parts call for aluminium and gloss black… Now the vallejo gloss black primer is blacker and glossier than anything I have paint wise… Could I just mask off the parts to be gloss black spray the aluminium and then just clear coat straight over it all thus using the primer as my gloss black coat? (if that makes sense?)
Should work. Try it and let us know.
Test first! There are lacquer, enamel, and acrylic primers out there. I have had some react badly.
sorry keep forgetting about testing before asking… Guess the excitement of building takes over the practical think through… Guess it will all come to me with time… Anyway thanks guys seems there’s no reaction between the metal varnish and metal primer… So looks like the primer is now my gloss black where required…
