primer color for a Leopard 2 A4

Hi guys, I´m going to start painting a Leopard 2A4 and I´m seeking a primer color for it, gonna try more advance effects on it. Any other suggestions much apreciated.

Cheers and thanks in advance

It all depends on what you want to do for the latter painting stages. I always prime my vehicles (IF I prime them that is) white, then outline all the panels, edges, and so forth in flat black. Others just forgo this step and prime the whole vehicle flat black. You may consider just using your basecoat colour as the primer.

Dexter,

This depends on your methods entirely. I use Krylon gray primer with armor kits.

I put the base color on after this and then add shadow and highlight shades after. I’m a big believer in having a good primer to allow the model paint to stick really well and to also have a uniform finish.

Dexter,

You should do a forum search. Somebody just finished one of these and the paint was fantastic.

If you were talking about the Leopard 2A5 I posted about a few days ago here’s one photo:

I didn’t use any primer; just airbrushed everything with a few coats of Tamiya NATO green, then painted all camo colors except the NATO black on the hull freehand with an airbrush.

Thanks guys, ´my project will be to finish the Leo 2A4 in a 2 tone desert camo (yellow sand and a light brown), because Chile is buying those from Germany, and that will be the most probable scheme for them. The idea it´s to make some chipped paint, enough to see the original scheme in some parts and add some rust too, like a very used vehicle. Hope you can help me.

Cheers
