Afrika Korps on the move with an Sdkfz 7 haulin a SFH 18 Fieldhowitzer. The gun is from Calder Craft a division of Hinchliffe Models LTD. and is all white metal. Very nice detail but metal is too heavy and too soft. Halftrack is converted

Thanks Stuka,yes I would say he`s a prime candidate for skin cancer in his later years,lol! It maybe that he came out a little deeper in colour than it actually is in pic form .
Ok Tango 1 here is how I did this groundcover;
I started with a dry wooden base long enough to include the length of the barrel,no overhangs,thats very important! To the base I dry spooned your common dirt from a construction site,with this dirt you build up the road sides and create depth for tire tracks etc. Next,I dry spooned a dark sand that I picked up from Micheals liberally over the dirt,gives you a twotone colouring now and something to work hilites on. I remembered something Heavy Arty said awhile back that the desert had a bit of a red/rusty tinge to it so I added a bit of a rust coloured tile grout to hilite,but ever so sparingly!! Remember,all this is still dry! I next added again sparingly a white sand to hilite even further. Now mix a solution of whiteglue and water and apply to all areas,fear not,this will dry rock hard. Once you have it soaked down you then add your tire ruts, vehicles,signage,figures etc.,with white glue of course.You can also go back and add more sand as I have done to give more depth . Another very important bit of info that I should have mentioned earlier is dont use an untreated piece of wood,youll have a banana boat by morning! Cut up you wifes nik-nak shelves or something like that but dont use just straight plain wood!
So that`s how I do all of my groundcovers on all dios and vigs,hope this works for you,

It`s cool Dave go for it! A couple of other things that I did to the 7 was I used the salt method on the paint work and I also scratched an engine for it. Just a couple of things you can think about as your doing yours.[:)]

Cool, done already! Great one, Russ, the banks look great, you can see the effort that 7 is exerting pulling that cannon with the tracks sinking into the sand…great stuff! Oh, next time we go for coffee, I picked up a little something at a dollar store there you’ll really like!

Thanks for the comments gang,yeah the wash is different,a little reddier than I would like.
Im in the process of trying a new colour as my usual brown is fast becoming a colour of the past (not being made anymore),so its a learning expierience all over again.
Russ, you could try and get some burnt umber from the Creamcoat line thats the colour I use for my face washes, but in my case it’s the artist oils. You could try to just add a little of the straight colour, then dip your brush in either water or some of the acryllic thinner and blend everything together.
