hey,
i am up to the painting stage of a cromwell mk 4, and was just wondering is it possible to preshade over dark green?
If so, would you use a light colour, or a dark colour?
thanks in advance

Of course you can as pre-shading is used to “highlight” the crevicess/recesses and/or the darkest areas on your model. I’ll go for a black pre-shading on the selected areas. Remember that the camo colour shoud be quite thinned otherwise is quite likely to loose all of the pre-shading effect…

Well, if you can find the Tamiya Model Magazine (published by ADH Publishing in England) in your hobby shop or book store, try to look it up the April/May 1999 issue. There was an article about preshading a Centaur. I think you can still apply the technique on your Cromwell. Basically, the author preshaded the entire tank black, then he airbrushed a layer of his custom mixed shades of olive drab(I suspected it was a mixture of Tamiya XF51 Khaki Drab, XF5 Flat Green, and XF52 Flate Earth), he then airbrushed a lighter colour of his olive drab(will more XF52 Flat Earth) to highlight.
Eggluver,
Try this. The concept would be the same, just use your tones not the white
