Prepping a BWN Resin Hull

Hi All,

I’ve started building a BWN USS Massachusetts. I cleaned the hull with detergent and with Isopropyl alcohol. I put a base coat of Mr. Surfacer as a primer, but it will not adhere. I then tried a coat of WEM Navy Blue and Haze Grey - neither would adhere. I then put a Dullcote on the bare hull, and as a sealer on top of the previous paint. Still no adherence.

I’m stumped, anyone have any ideas?

Steve

Try scuffing the surface slightly with very fine steel wool or a 3M Scotchbrite pad. What you have already done should have taken care of any mold release on the plastic so the paint “Should” be adhering. Scuffing the surface slightly will give the paint something to “Bite” to and may help.

You may try posting the same question on SteelNavy.com 's message board. Yankee Modelworks who took over BWN seem to monitor that board regulalry, so if anyone has an idea about the problem and solution, they might.
