Possible SAC GB Idea

I might could be a little over-anxious with the Endgame 1946 GB coming up that I am hosting and all but I have an idea for another group build. I see some others hosting or have hosted multiple group builds at one time but if this is wrong, please let me know. Anyways, my idea is a Strategic Air Command GB. Would include any and all aircraft that ever served with SAC. I am thinking of making this a year-long build from Jan. 1, 2009 to Jan. 1, 2010; could be called a New Years build. What do you guys think?

Edit- Planned run time is from March until the end of 2009.

I think you mean 2009 To 2010??..Harv

Oops. That would be correct Harv. It would run the entire length of 2009. Thanks

I’ve had an awful lot of fun during the SAC GB last year. I was planning on starting the SAC GB2 to start sometime late next year (2009). Not sure if you might be interested in that[:I]

I would like to start it earlier next year but we could combine efforts to make the SAC GB2 or whatever. When were you thinking of starting it?

Well, I was kinda eyeballing sometime in the summer (maybe around august or september), but haven’t decided yet. But I know there are a few others who have voiced their desire to get in on it too

That is a little late for me. I just ordered the Monogram RB-36H and thought it would be great for a GB like this. But I will be in college next year and I possibly might not be able to build that giant there(depends on were I go). Any chance on an earlier start date? June is about the lastest I could go. The earlier the better. I would really like to see a SAC II GB.

I spent 16 years in SAC back when it was run the way General Curt LeMay set it up. I would be pretty much obligated to participate in this group build, especially since I didn’t complete my entry in the last one. The earlier the better for me. I have kits of several different SAC aircraft.

Well, if this goes through it sounds like we got ourselves an excellent reference no matter who’s hosting it.

But of course!

I’m looking at the Air Forces timeline, and it looks like the inception of the Strategic Air Command was in march. May possibly be an excellent time to get it underway. Whaddya think?

Sounds pretty good to me. Any idea how long you would have it run for?

I would be interested too, since I ingloriously failed to start the last SAC GB due to life getting in the way. Either a B36 or B47.

Not sure yet. But off the top of my head, I’m thinking of the end of the year. That would give up plenty of time, to prep beforehand, and plenty of time to complete. I’m just concerned with lives and other GBs conflicting, so I’m hoping to be flexible here.

Let’s see if we have anymore interest come our way.[:I]

I’ve never done a group build, How does it work?

Sounds good! I’ve gotta B-47E that a really good pal gave me for Christmas that is just demanding to be built!

Besides, I’m thinking it’ll be the first time I’ve done a NMF[:D]

The first thing is a subject is picked for models. In this case, any aircraft that served with Strategic Air Command. There are some rules usually but as long as you have a kit that fits the guidelines, then you can join. Then you build a kit or kits in a certain amount of time.

That would be long enought I would imagine. I don’t think any GBs would conflict with this one. Only one I could think of would be the Cold War GB but it will be over by then. There isn’t really any post-WWII aircraft GBs that I know of that would be going on at the same time.

Pretty simple, Paul. A Group Build is a combined effort where the collective group builds according to one particular theme. We set a start time and a deadline, and chose our respective builds within that common theme (in this case, it would be anything that has ever been used by SAC) As each indivual build progresses, we come on here, post progress pictures, and discuss what went right, what went wrong, and other things related to the build. And as the case with most builds- either participation or completion warents you a badge for the GB to be posted in your signature line.

Take a little time and just kinda surf the Group Builds forum. It wont take long to see what I’m getting at. I’d highly recommend jumping into one and getting involved! I’ve made a lotta really good friends on the forums here- it’s the best way to do it![tup]

Cool! Let’s see if there’s anymore interest, and we will go from there![tup]

Took a gander at the GB forum and it sounds like fun. I have a 1/48 B-58 and an accompanying cockpit detail kit and I’d love to get in on this if you decide to do it.
