I spent an hour just sitting and paging thru the entire magazine. I found it very interesting to look at the advertisements, and other stories from that time. Very interesting!

I never realized the T-bolt could do 400+ mph.

It certainly doesn’t look like what you’d expect a speedy fighter to look like.

I found it especially interesting that the forerunner of today’s modern electromagnetic railgun was contemplated back in '42. The problem back then is the same one we have today, lack of compact high density capacitors to power the gun and the requisite high speed/high power switching apparatus. The science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke even postulated an electromagnetic launching ramp built up the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains to put payloads into orbit in 1947. This ramp would have been thirty miles long and taken four Hanford style nuclear reactors to power it.

With a rated altitude of around 8000m there’s no suprise it’s soo fast. Down low it didn’t have any jaw dropping performance (not slow by any means) but not really fast either. There’s a fair bit of ‘propaganda’ in the article but still interesting.
