Well I have had this Laptop for about 4 years. Its an ASUS G73j. The thing was killer when new and by all accounts still should be. Super Graphics Card and nice Ram. I upgraded to a Solid State HD after the stock one burnt out. It was lightning fast for about 2 years up until about 3 weeks ago. It began to get slow. So I got CCleaner and Malwarebytes. I cleaned the thing like crazy with both. I removed unwanted features and programs.
It was about the same then it then got worse. Now there is MAJOR typing lag and clicking lag. It makes it almost impossible to type. It also is VERY difficult to select things correctly. It seems worse every day! I am actually serious it does seem to get worse and worse.
What could be causing this? I uninstalled Google Chrome and re-installed it thinking it was that but both IE and GC do it. I run Windows 7 but don’t have it now so I cant re-install it without buying it again. Id prefer not to buy it again but that’s the last thing I can think of that might be the culprit. ANY info would be most most most appreciated! Thanks all!
If your recover partition was lost with the drive change, but you still have the Windows serial number on either paperwork or a label stuck to the posterior of the PC, you could “borrow” a comparable copy of Win 7 & use your original serial?
i’d do a scan disk on the hard drive to check for any errors in it. get the diagnostic software from the ssd maker & run it on the drive to check for bad memory. when was the last time a can of compressed air was used on the laptop to cleanout the cpu vents as clogged vents will cause the cpu to slow to prevent it from overheating?
Thanks Guys. The Windows 7 was indeed lost in the SSD drive installation so sounds like I may need to buy another Winodws 7. Tempted to just buy a new computer. Again thank you guys so much for your input!
That’s what I did. I got tired of the continuing problems on my 7 year old PC, so I bit the bullet and bought an iMac. This is much better. It seems to take care of itself and you don’t have to mess around running diagnostics and troubleshooting the operating system.
I can see that but I have ran a Windows System forever and have never ran a MAC. I also am a drafter and nearly all drafting is done on a PC w/ windows.
For some reason now the resolution is all screwy. Its all off and I cant get it back. It wont change when you try to reset or modify the resolution settings like it should. I got it to a better point but its still all messed up. It all started when I pulled a program off the drive because I didnt recognize it. Weird part is… It cured all the clicking and typing lag but now the resolution is locked in this weird position. It also made the fan go crazy and run at full speed in the machine.
Ok so here is whats happening now… I restored the system so the resolution is back and set right but the clicking lag and typing lag is back.
So this is basically whats going on. There is a program called ATI Installer (Maker of my Graphics Card, but I don’t need the installer) on my program list. If I uninstall it the lag with clicking and typing goes away but makes the resolution all messed up and cant be corrected. The fan also goes nuts and runs at full speed. However if I leave it I have to deal with the lag. Any ideas what I should try?
A quick search of the web suggest that keyboard lag isn’t uncommon on the G73, most looking to be down to iffy keyboard drivers, touchpad drivers or faulty keyboards.
I would start by having a look in device manager, seeing if there are any conflicts, & checking if there are any updated drivers available for the keyboard or touchpad.
If you don’t have any luck there, I would take a note of the version of the ATI drivers & see if anything newer is available - if it isn’t I would still try reinstalling the latest ATI drivers. if that doesn’t work it may be worth installing an older version of the ATI drivers than you currently have, you may have to try a few older versions if you can get hold of them.
It may be that the currently installed drivers (which are most likely required for res adjustment) are conflicting with other drivers & that this may have happened a while ago when you (or the G73) did an ATI driver update.
once you said ASUS I just shook my head. I have had an ASUS tablet for a couple of years now and absolutely dispise their stuff. If it had not been a gift I would have chosen or used the stinking thing. In my experience their stuff is junk.
Gotta Disagree there Stik! You may have got a lemon or I have been getting lucky. The Asus products I have used have waaay outlasted any Dell, Toshiba, or HP I have ever had. This Computer has been sooo great until now. In all reality I am happy that I have had this for 4 years and never had any issues. Most don’t last that long. Especially the major use this one has been through (Schooling, Jobs, work, etc).
That being said I have not had any low or mid range Asus products. I used an Asus tablet for a while at work and liked ok (Memory got backed and you had to clear it frequently). I had to get this G73 because it could handle the CAD software I need. It was disappointment the HD went out in about 2 1/2 years though. I suppose I mostly like the features and performance. Back-lit Keyboard, Huge 17.3" Screen, i7, Fast Ram, etc. I have had many friends/fellow students who swear by Asus for gaming and design. Most ratings are high too. I also like Lenovo for PCs and would really like to try an Aleinware but those cost sooo much!
Tried a few things and the click lag is gone but the typing lag is still there.[bnghead] I think I can deal with this for now though. At least I will try! Thanks for the Info guys! I really appreciate it![:D]
