Hey everyone, so this is my 5th ever model, and my first non tank. Italeri’s 1:35 Staghound Mk1 and I chose the Polish decal set. I still have a lot of learning to do and this was my first attempt at using a rust wash. First attempt at cammo paint too.
I learned this time around that if doing the hair spray technique that you cant leave the top coat on for a few days before attempting to create chips. Paint was very hard to get off. Anyway here it is, and if you feel you can add any comments and advice/suggestion please feel free. Always happy for a free educcation.
Thats a nice looking build. The streak effects are a bit over done for my taste, but still look well done. I like the rust on the barrel straps and the dust effects.
I’ll agree the rust streaks on the turret look a little overdone, one of the reasons I don’t normally do them since it’s hard not to overdo it. And the seam on the turret side in the second photo supposed to look like that? You might try adding a little putty on your next kit like that and working it to look like a weld seam.
If you zoom way in it’s a bit over weathered in spots and the paint is crinkling a bit from the hair spray technique it looks like. Overall from a normal viewing distance it looks pretty damn realistic. Great job.
Thanks everyone, nitpicking is exactly what i was hoping for. I didn even notice the seam under the turret and now its so obvious. I think even sanding would have helped out with that, but will grab putty for my next build. I was really happy with the way the first rust streak looked that i went a little over the top, so thanks for that, also appreciate the sand effect was over done.
The bunching up on the pain in some places, yeah that was a result I believe of leaving the paint no for a couple days before trying to add some chipping with a paint brush and water. ended up pressing quite hard with the brush and resuted in the bunching.

Actually you don’t have to knock out the entire seam there on the turret. I think the real turret was built from two large cast pieces, a top and a bottom and they were welded together along the seam line in the real thing. So you don’t have to get entirely rid of it, just make it look like a weld seam. Or that’s how it looks to me anyhow!

The rust is “Slightly” overdone… only on the 2 spots on the turret. But I have done even crunchier corrosion.
Speaking as a part time model railroader ( OK…40 years of tiny citys and trains ) I LOVE the weathering ! You have portrayed the “lived in look” Very well ! Especially the barrel straps, and the exaust/ muffler’s.
The ONLY thing I would do different is drill out ( or at least paint Black ) the exaust tips.
