Polikarpov I-16

Hi; I started the 1/48 scale Polikarpov I-16 kit. Interesting airplane with little known history. But having done this and having the box to stare at, I am now wondering: How does one properly pronounce Polikarpov? Can anyone that knows for sure lay this out phonetically for me?

POLI - like POLIuretane

pole-eek’-err-pov. Emphasis on second syllable. Pov as in poverty. Trust me[8-].

you are right but … who will twist his tong to pronounce it ? Even Russian will not do POVerty [:D] 90% out of a 100 LOL

I don’t drink Vodka. My bad[B)]. pole-eek’-err-poof?[:)]

WyoDave- I tried to check out that video, but couldn’t get it to work. Is that addy missing parts?

Yeah, it sent me to a wikipedia page lecturing me on hypertext transfer protocols…

I signed in to youtube and did a search for Polikarpov (my vote would be for Polly-kar’-pov, accent on the kar, it is said once in the Russian language narration of the film) and got this Russian propaganda film on the I -153 and I-16, some really neat aerobatic sequences that I suspect have been speeded up, unless the I-16 was one snap rolling fool!

It would have benn tough to shoot down that little guy with a roll rate like that.

And what about the poor ground crew that is cleaning up all the pilot puke[:(]

Sorry to take awhile to take a look back in and make a reply. Log into youtube and also search for loaded clips under the title IL2 Sturmovich. There are some interesting I-16 animations.
