Polikarpov I-16 type 24 work in progress pics

Here are work in progress pics of my latest build.

It is the ICM 1/72 Polikarpov I-16 Type 24 Fighter.

The kit is really nice I am using PE from both the ACE and ExtraTech kits, plus added a couple of scratchbuild goodies as well. I made the leather bumper out of sheet styrene and the guns and pitot tubes are made from hypo needles.
(I have a friend who’s fiancee is a vet and gets me the needles [:)] yes before they are used. [:p] )

Added in the light holes for the cockpit, and the retracting cable for the landing gear. I also hollowed out the exhaust tubes hard to see in the pics, hope to have better ones taken when it is done.

Should have it finished some time next week I hope, barring any life shaking events. [:D]

Again thanks for looking [:)]

Cheers
Thom

wow, looks good, but its such a tiny little thing, I’d be afraid of setting something on it. What scale is that??

jim

Looks like you wont the battle of the gap… great finish

Looking real good so far. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

Looks like you´ve got something good coming there. What did you use for machine guns, I have troubble finding machine guns in 1/72; the smallest tubing is usually to big.
Again, great work and thanks for sharing.

Nice “mosca”! Sorry for the spelling-I believe it’s Russian for “fly” (the bug).

Dan

Mukha, I think.

Great looking plane. When the heck are we going to get a Spanish Civil War GB?

Looking great, I have it in 1/48th and its small there. Next pictures take it next to some coins so we can really appreciate the size and your details.

Great work (terrific eyesight) as usual Thom, thanks! [:)]

Take care,
Frank

what a neat little plane!

I really like this plane, and ithis is a really good job… mmm… The Polikarpov I-16 is also known as “Rata” (or “Rat”) by the República Española… or “Mosca” (“Fly”)

Nice work on the little thingie. Small is good.

Looking great… I always thought these looked like they’d be really fun to fly.

Thanks again everyone for the comments [:)]

Gilmund the machine guns were made from 25 gauge hypo-needles (OD. .020 / ID .010). Might want to look at a company called Small Parts, Inc

Thanks Frank but you have to be kidding on the eyesight. [(-D]
I’m either looking over my glasses to focus better or using the opti-visior. Just had a long discussion with my eye doctor a few weeks back about bi-focals. I’m not ready for those yet . [(-D]

Great looking Rata!
