Very well done, have this kit also. The weathering is very nicely done as well. Is this the 1st Avenger kit from AM you’ve attempted? I do agree with AM kits I have build 3 of them so far. 2 Mustangs and an SBD-3 Dauntless. I found the Dauntless to date the most pleasurable. That may change though once I start on the Avenger with the KMC wingfold set for this kit. That may take the easy out of it. But in the end may be the most satisfying. This would be a long term project. Usually one a year with less complicated builds along the way.
Thanks for sharing.
Well done build with just the right amount of weathering to give it a used look, but not overdone. Very nice. Maybe I should look into their Dauntless…
That’s a very nice job in every respect - the detail is stunning, and the photos are awesome too !
One question… this is one that has bugged me for a while. Whenever I see pacific birds in a tricolor scheme, some of them look as though they were painted with very “Blue” Dark blue tops, and intermediate blue sides. But in some photos of real aircraft and in some kits that I’ve seen, the colors seem much more greyish blue. In the case of your build - Is that just the lighting in your pics ? What colors did you use for the blues ?
Thanks for the comments.I have built other AM kits and found them all to be top notch, especially the SBD’s. Please post some pics of your tbm… the wing fold should be slick. Good luck on your build.
Bossman,
I used MM enamels on this plane with fs-35042 on top. I also faded the top a little by spraying inside certain panels with a lighter version of the baes color. Also I think the lighting in the photo has altered the look a bit. When I look at it now from my desk, It looks very dark. Oh yeah, and I used fs35164 on the sides.
That is one sweet looking Avenger bro! I picked up a few of the AM Avenger series with some Christmas money through ebay-- the TBM-3 and the “Revenge of the Turkeys” set with two kits in one…looking forward to trying them out and your pics are getting me more so…AM is definitely my favorite company to choose from…course having an affinity to the USN birds helps [;)] Wish they’d get around to modeling a good Devastator…
Thanks Jeeves, a Devastator would be sweet, but at least we can look forward to the new Vindicator series due out soon. Also, I think there are some new Mustangs due as well. Can’t wait.
Your Avenger looks great. I have the AM George H.W. Bush Avenger and plan to start it in the next couple weeks. Hope you don’t mind if I use your photos for reference.
Absolutely not, I would consider it an honor Take a look at the un-line build at the Accurate Miniatures site, it’s pretty cool. Post some pics when your done! Good luck
I saw the AM online build and and printed a copy of it. But the more references I have the better. FSM, this forum, and photos like yours are an invaluable resource for us.
What can I say that hasn’t been said before except I am inspired by work of such high quality and hope to reach that level someday. It is a joy to view.[:D]
