Not too long ago, someone asked on this forum, “What kit was the most pleasureable to build.” Well, this is my AM 1/48 TBM, and I must say it was very pleasureable to build!
I wish all kits had this level of quality fit, finish, and detail. The model is painted with MM enamels, a little bit of photo-etch and AM decals. I used 2# test mono for the rigging. Also I gave it an oil wash followed with pastels.
The instructions were a little vague, but I managed to hack my way thru. I’m definately gonna do some other versions of this well engineered kit. Many thanks to AM for raising the bar and producing some excellent products. I haven’t been dissapointed yet in any of their kits.
Very nice work on the Avenger. I see this is another one of those Navy Squadrons where the pilot needs those big white arrows on the fin and wing to remind him which way is up and forward. VF-187 flying F4U Corsairs from the USS Bunker Hill during the battle for Okinawa used this same reference system.
Many thanks to one and all, I appreciate the kind words!
swfong,
This was the AM kit in the plain generic box. I consider myself lucky to have gotten decals let alone canopy masks. Therefore, I used bare metal foil to mask that very challenging greenhouse.
wibhi2,
Yes, I definitely did detail the radio compatrment as well as all other parts of the pit. Cockpits are my favorite part of any build, and with all that detail, it was like a dream.
I’m sorry I didn’t have a digital camera so I could have taken some pics. I also added some PE for even more detail.
thats an awesome build!!! I have pondered getting one of these as I have been through several of their dauntless series AC (accurate minis) They were all extremely nice builds as well… especially the cockpit area! (cockpits are my favorite part too, in fact sometimes it’s hard to continue once I am done inthe cockpit!)
