Please Tell Me I'm Not Nuts

Hi all, right on the heels of a online order I went to a hobby store I had never visited and spent a bundle. Haul for these two ventures are:

Online purchase:

Lancaster MkI special (For the grand slam bomb) 1/72

FW 190 1/48th

Halifax 1/72

Hobby Store:

Churchill Tank 1/35

Mosquito night fighter 1/48

Hawker Typhoon (bubble canopy) 1/48

P-38F(Glacier Girl) 1/48

P-40B Flying Tigers 1/48

B-24 Liberator 1/48th! I passed on a 1/72 scale B-24 that had my favorite nose art, A Dragon and His Tail. Just had to have the big one and of course the other can be for another day LOL!

You’re not nuts!

Is that better? [:D]

Well you asked for it “your nuts” There is that better? Good score, have any money left for paint??..Harv

“Nuts” woulda been buying a 1/72 B-24 when there’s 1/48th there… “The Dragon and His Tail” not withstanding… Wish someone made that decal sheet in 1/48th though… I’ve got a photo of that bird that’s absolutely heart-breaking… It’s sittin’ on it’s tail, turrets gone, engines lopped-off, outside the gate at the boneyard, on a temporary display for the passers-by while quietly (and sadly almost) awaiting the scrapper… It would make a great diorama of the Lib and the ultimate fate that awaited all too many Warbirds… *sniff…

I’ve got the video of "Glacier Girl"s rescue as well… It’s really worth buying if you ever get the urge… It’s called “The Lost Squadron”.

You don’t need Help, you just need Glue!

and Paint. lots of paint. [:D]

I feel better now. LOL!

You’re only nuts if you never build them, but keep them in a big pile in the basement, and periodically sit yourself down in the middle of them and giggle to yourself. [;)]

Or if you build them and never share them with us.

But congrats on a good day’s hunting! I take it the B-24 is the Monogram/Revell kit, is it the -D or the -J? What are some of the other manufacturers you bought in this spree?

Regards,

Brad

And here’s something that is nuts-buying 2 bagged Monogram kits, without instructions. One’s the P-51B, the other is the Hawker Typhoon. The P-51B I built as a kid, and I think I can figure out where everything goes. But I never built the 1/48th Typhoon. I built Revell’s 1/32-scale offering of that, but not the smaller Monogram kit. So I expect that I’ll have some pieces left over-of course, any piece bigger than a control column, and I’m not just nuts, but stupid [;)]

Regards,

Brad

I think you’re asking the wrong people! [(-D] [8-] [C):-)][BH][8)] [party] [alien] [oX)] [:P] [:D]

If anything, the Monogram Tiffie’s easier than the Pony… Just remember to put the radiator front in the nose before you glue the fuselage together, and add a whip antenna… Same-same with the Monogram Pony… If you use the Malcom hood, you need to lose the molded-on antenna and make a whip. Also, make sure you have the gear doors on correctly and not swapped around… Test fit them in the wells first, before you add the struts.

somebody does make that decale set in 1/48th, as I’ve seen it on Ebay. I have it in 1/72 from Academy, and it’s a very nice kit. But the sad thing was that the decales were messed up, and need to round up another set before starting it. There’s a whole series of nose art for the planes fown with that wing, and thing you can buy many of them.

gary

You use instructions???

You’re not nuts. On more than one occasion, I went into my LHS only to get a “few” things and walked out with $150 worth of kits, paints, tools, etc…

I am glad to see you bought twice the number of kits at the LHS vs the Online Store. Keep supporting the local stores, or they will fade away!

I have heard a 1/48th scale decal is made for dragon and his tail but my B-24 is the wrong version, would not want to be inaccurate. To answer one of the questions, Typhoon is made by Hasegawa, Mosquito by Tamiya, P-38 is Academy, P-40 is Revell as is the big bomber. Churchill tank is Tamiya.

[#ditto]

Yeah, I can’t tell you that you’re not nuts. But I can tell you that you’re not alone!

Well I could tell you you’re not nuts if it would make you feel better but the truth is you are nuts - a model nut just like the rest of us.

You are only nuts if you are married and have not broken this news to your spouse (and have delusions of keeping this news secret). [:)]

Naaaaa, you aren’t nuts.

On the contrary, that sounds about right[;)]

Ah… Did you buy the D-model then? Didn’t know there was a 1/48th “D” other than the one I have. I need to get a new decal sheet for that one as well… I wanna do one of the Ploesti Raiders (“Teggie Ann”) that came with the Pro Modeler kit I have, but the sheet that came with it is toast from age and being un-protected in a humid basement for about 10 years…

I’ve got two "J"s sitting in the closet, so the “Dragon” is buildable if I can find the decal sheet… I’ll start looking around the net for one. If anyone knows about it, shoot me a link, PLEASE!..
