PLEASE HELP

I am trying to find out what color is used for the flight deck on an aircraft carrier namely the USS Forrestal also the hull color. Please help, Thanks, John

The flight deck on the “Forest Fire” CVA 59 was standard black top . You can use Floquil Grimy Black it is a perfect shade of tar/macadam color.

Here is a link to learn of the ship and it fire

The hull color of all U.S. Navy ships since the 50’s is “Haze Gray” . White Ensign carries the exact shade, or you can mix equal parts FS 35237 (medium gray in Model Master), and FS 36622 (camouflage gray). Weather decks were “Deck Gray” (a very dark gray). Again White Ensign carries it, or it appox 2 parts FS 36118 (gunship gray) and one part FS 36622 (camouflage gray). See FSM Feb '03 article by Rusty White on the Adams class DDG.

As for the flight deck I’m not sure. I spent 3 years on an LPH. That flight deck was Deck Gray according to my cruise books pictures. But a CV might be different. Also all weather decks are also non-skid except for the last 6 inches around the edge and any bulkhead.

Hope I could help. Feel free to ask if you need more info. I spent 9 yrs in the “canoe club”.

Tim

White Ensign Models (http://whiteensignmodels.com) Colourcoats paints has:

M03, Modern USN Haze Gray;
M04, Modern USN Deck Gray;
M05, Modern USN Flight Deck Gray.

Brushable right from the tin, or thin for airbrushing.

Thank you John. I’m going to have to get my paint from them myself.[:D][:D]
