Hi Ryan,

Excellent choice, and welcome to the 1/48 crowd, a small but hopefully growing group.

From your list, I’d say whatever takes your fancy. [:)] Personally though, I’d say this about some of them:

Tiger I 501st Africa (technically not a part of the Deutsche Afrika Korps, the 501st PzAbt fought in Africa but was never part of the DAK per se, just a historical tidbit [;)]): Should be a fairly easy build. I’ve just done a regular Tiger I and it came together quite easily. Since it’s an African version you can do it in one color as well, so no intricate camo pattern, and concentrate on the weathering.

Hetzer (38)t: Small, nifty little thing with not so many exterior details. Could be good to cut your teeth with. I’m doing one of these as one of my next builds. It’s got a three-color camo pattern, but could be brush painted, I guess.

Pz III Ausf L: Again, this could be made as the African (DAK!) version, in one color, saving you a lot of painting time. Again, a small little tank.

I imagine the Sherman doesn’t have much detail to it either, making for an easy build, as well as being in one color only.

As for figs, Tamiya do three box sets of German figures, each including a couple of tank commanders and some soldiers. There’s one with early troops in action, one with early troops at rest and one with late war Panzer Grenadiers. These sets are quite good IMHO, and adding a commander or crew figure to your tank will enhance it no end. There’s also a box of American troops, as well as British and Russians.

You can check on http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/plamo/ for instructions for all of Tamiya’s kits (select Tamiya on the top left) and you can see what’s in each troop set box. Quite handy to know before you buy.

Any other questions, just ask.

Any of your above choices will do. On the figures, just remember, use the same scale figures as your models. Personally, I find 1/48 too small and not detailed enough for me. I prefer 1/35 scale for the level of detail and the wide range of kits, figures, and accessories that are available.

A slight forum note. Capitalization, punctuation, and proper spelling is appreciated. Your above post is very hard to read and is one, giant run-on sentance. Just because you are 14 does not allow you to forget about basic writing skills.[swg]

Thank you very much with all your help.

oh and sorry about the writting i am classed as deslecsic, which means i find it hard to spell as good as every one else, so sometimes my spelling wont be correct but i will try my hardest to spell properly.

anyway thanks ryan

Welcome to the club. As stated above, all of the Tamiya 1/48 kits are very simple builds. But if you ever seriously get into armour, I wholeheartedly suggest 1/35 scale. Much more choice, both with kits, and especially with figures. You listed a lot of German armour, so if you switch to 1/35, check out DML figures. Probably the best out there in plastic, and fairly affordable.

I recommend the Sherman. Primarily, because I’m biased, but Shermans are fairly simple without being completely bland. As mentioned, the one color OD paint scheme will be easy. There are plenty of opportunities to accessorize the vehicle as well. If 1:48 was around when I was 14, I think I’d have 1:48 tanks instead of 1:35. They would match my A/C.[:)]

thanks for all the help, this list i made using ones i like so im just goin down to the lhs to see if one’s in but if it isnt i have a back up now.[:)]

Good luck, and remember you have to show us when you’re done. [:)]

And don’t be afraid to ask questions if there’s anything you wonder about! [;)]

i am not afraid to ask use lot you all seem to no mostly everythink bout amour. im goin to get my amour model on august 19 sounds ages away but im buyin it while at my local airshow

they had a few tanks in the museum part and amoured vehicles so im goin to get some photos

Hey Tonado,

Don’t worry about grammar, spelling or anything else like that and don’t feel that you have to explain your mistakes, nobody is perfect. Enjoy your hobby, don’t sweat the small stuff and most of all do the models for yourself, no one else matters.

I’m a 55 year old retired Navy Chief Petty Officer who can’t spell more that one syllabyl words, can’t draw a straight line without a ruler and if the instructions involve more than just pictures I get lost…well not that bad but hopefully you get the point. I’ve been working on so many models since the 1950’s I can’t remember them all but who cares, because I had fun.

And to ANYONE WHO THINKS THEY ARE BETTER AND CORRECTS ANY OF US, SHAME ON YOU !

That state might raise some fires under certain people and turn others off so to the Forum editors goes my sincere apology, as I cannot fathom anyone taking away the fun -factor in this forum.

John M. Staehle (johncpo)

thanks john

Tornado,

Welcome, If your set on 1/48th do the Hetzer as your first kit, its a good kit and easy, I’m going to assume that you want to build 48th to go with your aircraft, thats what I did with 1/72nd(which is what I mainly build!).

I have to agree with Arty about your writing on your opening post it was like you were text messaging, None of us are perfect, spelling puncuation etc… but try It will also help you in your school work and life in the future, keep a dictionary next to your computer for the hard words and just work out what you want to write(type) Good Hunting, G.W.

I’m not correcting anyone, nor do I think I am better than anyone else here. Just pointing out that it is much easier to read a message when it is in complete sentances and with some punctuation and capitalization. It is just proper forum etiquette. Even with dyslexia, by 14 you should be able to form sentances and punctuate. Think of it as if you are writing a paper or letter in school. I’m sure your teachers don’t allow you to turn papers in like that. A little effort goes a long way. Spellcheck is great too.

I prefer others to type using proper punctuation and capital letter. The only reason is that it is easier to read. You’ll find that more people will respond to your queries when you do so. Beyond that, it projects an image of yourself as a bright and intelligent person, which I believe you are: Therefore, others will have a tendency to treat you with more respect. Again, this is not a judgement of you as a person or your abilities. I used to type emails and IMs like that. As time went on, I graduated HS and it became unacceptable. I understand where you are coming from, I had two friends who were both dyslexic.

Sometimes, when I’m writing one of my many papers for college, I use this site to help my spelling. Spellcheck doesn’t know all the words and I tend to use some $10, field specific terms. It will also guess at what word you try to spell. We all have patience, we’re just letting you know how we prefer things in this forum.[:)]

Hey, give the guy a break. He has a disability. Just do the best you can Tornado and welcome to the forums. With time you will get it down in no time.

I can’t stress enough that it’s just a personal preference. If you have a hard time doing it, it’s ok, don’t worry about it. I was just trying to help.[:)]

[#ditto]

Note: Please look at the “Ditto” smiley. I bet this was done by a pro and yet it is not spelled correctly.

Welcome Ryan! I hope you have a great time and hope you post your work soon!

Anthony.

I think you should have fun doing any of the kits that you mentioned.I’m not a 1/48 guy, but all I’ve seen of them is good.

As far as the forum stuff, hang in there and do your best.

I believe the correction was meant to be of help but it’s hard to know the intent sometimes in this written world without seeing one’s face and voice inflection.

Seemed a tad harsh to me , but don’t let it bother you.I doubt it was meant that way.JMHO.

I don’t think anything was meant mean or anything. I just have seen so many threads and people that can’t type or punctuate and nothing is ever said. The guy said he had a disability, good enough for me.
