plastic stuff

anybody have any opinions on plastic used by different manufacturers? I find that some are obvioulsy better than others. I like Tamiya, not wild about academy. Accurate is great. Any opinions? It certainly seems to affect the way paint takes to the surface and also warping.

I think that the paints ability to “stick” is more dure to the molding process and the “mold release” substance that factories use to pop the plastic out of the molds would make more of a difference. To avoid this problem, wash your kits with dish soap and scrub a little with a toothbrush.

I just completed three new Revellogram kits. The plastic in these kits is much much softer than in the older kits. I found I really had to watch my sandpaper grades because I wound up with a lot of scratches. The plastic is like the Hobbycraft and AMT kits from Korea. The details seem much larger too.

Also, the warp and fit was not near as good as the old kits. The 1/48 B-25 engine narcells are about 10% smaller than they should be.

You get what you paid for. The Accurate Dauntless I have is very crisp and the molds are stupendiou, but there is a $25 difference between a Accurate kit, Trupeter kit, and a Revellogram. And I still like plunking down less than $10 and have some fun putting together a Spitfire.
